Newsletter - 3 / 4 VA

This term, the students in Year 3 and 4 VA have been exploring the meaning and importance of symbols in Australia.  As part of their learning, they chose a symbol to research both at school and at home. Using what they discovered, the students created infographic posters using Piktochart to showcase their research and learning.  Here are some examples of the wonderful work the students have produced!

I chose the Commonwealth Coat of Arms as my Australian symbol. The Commonwealth Coat of Arms is combined with the United Kingdom Coat of Arms and the Royal Coat of Arms Great Britain. I chose the commonwealth Coat of Arms because it looks cool and I had not seen this symbol before!

I chose the Sydney Opera house for my Australian symbol and I learnt about how special it is to Australia and that it has been recognised as one of the finalists of the new seven wonders of the world and had 223 international designs for the building!

For my poster, I chose the Southern Cross for my symbol of Australia. I learnt lots of things that were very interesting and surprising. One thing that I learnt is that the Southern Cross is actually mentioned in the National Anthem!  Another thing that I found interesting is that the Southern Cross was used for navigation for sailors!

How amazing!
