Prep S

In Prep S, we have had a fantastic term of learning!

In Literacy, we have loved meeting new characters that help us learn and remember our letters and sounds. With this letter-sound knowledge, we are able to sound out words and read books all on our own! We have also been doing lots of writing and using interesting words that we find in books to write our own sentences.

In Maths, we have extended our number knowledge to 20. We have been working on writing numbers, counting collections, finding one more and one less and representing numbers in different ways. We have used ten-frames, base ten blocks and number tracks to compare numbers and be able to match them to their numeral.

In Inquiry, our focus has been Chemical Science where we have investigated the materials that objects are made out of and why they are the best material to use. We explored different types of hats and how each one is made of a different material depending on what they are used for. For example, a beanie is made of wool so it keeps us warm but a hard hat needs to be made of strong plastic to protect our heads. We then created our own object that could be used at school using the best material for the job. We made books out of paper, gates out of metal, prayer mats out of fabric, a bridge out of wood and lots more.

In Religion, we have learnt about the Church and how we are all part of the family of God. We learnt about Pentecost, the sacrament of Baptism, the role of the Priest in the church and how we can be inclusive of everyone, just like Jesus. We also had a very special visit from Fr. Joe.
