This term in FBI, we have explored Changes… Personal and Community changes.
As a class we explored all the ways we have changed over time and created a timeline of events and milestones.
First, we played ‘Guess the Baby!' We had so much fun trying to guess who was who. We looked for clues, studying the photos very closely. Some were easy to guess and some not so easy! Look how cute we all were!
Can you guess which baby photo belongs to which Prep?
Did you know there was a cinema in Sorrento? The Preps were shocked to learn that where shops now exist, not so long ago, was a cinema, the Athenaeum Cinema. We walked down to Main Street to explore how the street has changed over time, comparing then with now. It was wonderful to look through the windows of the old cinema and still see a little piece of history still standing – even some of the old carpet is hiding near the stairs inside!
Did you visit the Athenaeum Cinema in Sorrento? If so, what was your favourite movie that you watched there? What memories do you have of visiting the Athenaeum Cinema?
One of our favourite books we read this term was, The Potato People, by Pamela Allen.
We learned three new words from the story and their meanings.
Gradually - If something happens gradually, it happens little by little, slowly over a long time.
Drooped - When something droops, it sinks or hangs down.
Exclaimed - If someone exclaims, they say something loudly in surprise or shock.
We made connections with our prior knowledge about the title and illustration on the front cover. Then we used what we knew, our schema, to make a prediction about the story.
We asked and answered the questions...
What are the grandmother and the boy doing?
What might they use the potatoes for?
We made our own Potato People and wrote about them.
Have you read The Potato People?
These holidays, why don't you listen to the story, and make your own potato people just like us!
