Reminder: Year 12 End of Year Events

he graduation of the Senior class of 2023 will soon be upon us. To assist with your planning, please find below a calendar of end of year events relevant to Year 12 students and their families. 

 

Please note, this information  sent to all Year 12 families in August. 

 

Thursday 12 October: Pink Day

Monday 16 October: Celebration of Excellence, 6.00 – 9.00pm 

Tuesday 17 October: Farewell Assembly

Wednesday 18 – Thursday 19 October: Masterclass tutorials in targeted sessions 

Friday 20 October: Study Day

Monday 23 October – Tuesday 14 November: QCAA Senior External Examinations Wednesday 15 November: Evolution Day, 8.30am – 3.00pm 

Thursday 16 November: Graduation Mass, 9.30 – 10.30am 

Thursday 16 November: Graduation Dinner, 5.30 – 9.30pm

 

House Farewell Assemblies will occur and these will take place as part of the usual House Assembly schedule. 

 

As these events are school functions, usual school rules apply regarding hair, makeup, nails, lashes, fake tans, tattoos, jewellery, smoking, vaping and alcohol. Please refer to MyMtA - Policies & Procedures. 

 

As per our usual processes, students who do not comply with these expectations will be required to remove or correct the infringement prior to the event. We respectfully ask parents to work in partnership with us to uphold these expectations for our final rites of passage.

 

YEAR 12 PINK DAY

Pink Day is a celebration of the last days of classes. On Thursday 12 October, Year 12 students are invited to wear pink accessories with their uniform to celebrate this significant milestone. Students will need to bring their swimmers and sports uniform to wear in the pool to conclude the day.

 

CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE

Our annual Celebration of Excellence will be held in the San Damiano Centre on Monday 16 October, 6.00 – 9.00pm. All Year 12 students and families are invited to attend but attendance by Award winners and their families is expected. Award winners will be announced early in Term 4.

 

FAREWELL ASSEMBLY

The Farewell Assembly will take place on Tuesday 17 October. This assembly will 

commence at 1.30pm in the San Damiano Centre. 

 

It will be preceded by a Homeroom farewell. Year 12 students are to wear their formal uniform, including hat. Blazers are not required. This is the College’s formal graduation event for staff, students and invited guests. Year 12 families are invited to gather around the College oval for the hat toss from 2.30pm.

 

QCAA SENIOR EXTERNAL EXAMINATIONS

The QCAA Senior external examinations are scheduled from Monday 23 October – Tuesday 14 November. The examination schedule is prepared and published by the QCAA and can be accessed at https://www.qcaa.qld.edu.au/senior/see/timetable.

 

EVOLUTION DAY

On Wednesday 15 November, 8.30am – 3.00pm, the Year 12 students will participate in their Evolution Day, a celebration of their time at Mount Alvernia, their friendships and their transition to life beyond school. This day will be facilitated by Mr Richard Rogusz, Ms Kathy Dendy and other College staff in the San Damiano Centre. Students can wear appropriate casual clothes, their College sports uniform or their Senior jersey and shorts, plus covered footwear.

 

This day should be a reflective and joy filled conclusion to the year. Families will receive additional information about this day by post.

 

GRADUATION MASS

The Graduation Mass will be held on Thursday 16 November, 9.30am-10.30am at Little Flower Church, Turner Road, Kedron. Families are invited to attend. Year 12 students are required to wear their full formal uniform, including blazer and polished shoes.

 

GRADUATION DINNER

The Graduation Dinner is the College’s formal graduation event for Year 12 students and two members of their immediate family*. It will be held on the evening of Thursday 16 November at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Merivale Street, South Brisbane, commencing at 5.30pm. 

 

Drinks and canapes will be provided on arrival and professional photographers will be available to take family photographs. Year 12 students are required to wear their full formal uniform, including blazer and polished shoes. The Ceremony will conclude at 9.30pm. A meal will be provided and a cash bar will be available for the purchase of drinks. 

 

Families are required to advise the College of the names of each guest and the relevant dietary and mobility requirements via the RSVP form that will be forwarded to families with the invitation in Term 4.

 

* If family circumstances are such that additional places for parents or carers are required, this can be accommodated. Please indicate this via the RSVP form.

 

TEXTBOOKS & RESOURCES

All textbooks and resources must be returned to the iCentre by Tuesday 14 November, if not before. If resources are not returned or are damaged, a replacement cost will be deducted from the holding fee.

 

LOCKERS

Students are to ensure that their lockers are emptied and cleaned by Tuesday 14 November. Students are to remove and retain their locks.

 

UNIFORM SHOP

The College would appreciate sports and formal uniform items for emergency loans to students. If you have such items you wish to donate, please drop them into Student Services.

 

Furthermore, pre-loved uniform items may be taken to the Unifor Shop for resale. The Uniform Shop will only accept formal uniform items of good quality, and blazers must be dry cleaned.
