Identity and Outreach

Andrea O'Grady

We are called to see the dignity in all people and be a people of welcome, so it is with gratitude that I see our students building relationships and volunteering with those who are working to support those in need.

  • Missio Dei have been working to raise money for Centacare and the programs that support students and their families and attended the launch of “Schools savvy” program.  Our end of term liturgy focused on the support provided to refugees and families settling in the Cairns region.  Centacare’s volunteer programs provide wonderful support.

  • COUCH has also been a focus for Missio Dei students – as part of our Term 2 Cancer fundraiser.  Through fundraising initiatives approx. $750 was raised to support COUCH.

  • Catholic Mission fundraising this term via donations for our daily staff caffeine fix comes to $600.  Catholic Mission continues to support over 278 different projects around the world supporting 118 871 children.

  • Rosies – friends on the street continues to see our senior students volunteering once a month to support those who need a meal. I thank the staff who volunteer their time to make this volunteering option possible.

  • Mr Free’s Justice Group – have been busy visiting people, working with St Vincent de Paul and developing projects within the College on a Wednesday afternoon.

We thank Helena Tutoe and Narelle Mears who are travelling to Brisbane with 6 students to attend the IGNITE Catholic Youth Conference during the holidays.  Four days of faith filled fun and activities will see them fired up with ideas, inspiration and renewed upon their return.

We also thank Leah McBryde and Helena Tutoe for organising an amazing BBQ breakfast, lunch concert, and dance competition on Wednesday in recognition of R U Ok? Day. Random Acts of Kindness were also performed throughout the day by students and staff.  It was a wonderful SMCC community day filled with faith, hope and love.

Coming UP in Term 4. - St Vincent de Paul  Christmas Hampers.

With faith, hope and love,
