Deputy Principal Message

James Roberts

Schools have always been a reflection of what is happening in society.  To say that we are not (or shouldn’t be), is to say that we should conduct ourselves in isolation to society.  If we were to do this, we run the risk of creating an idealistic bubble that lacks connection to society and arguably ill equipped to prepare our students to take their place in society and make a positive contribution.

Just as society faces challenges, you would expect schools to face challenges - student attendance and behaviour, staff shortages, academic and vocational success. Our Catholic Identity teaches us that we need to embrace these challenges to grow to become more human made in the image of God.

I am reminded of a prayer by a colleague from many years ago - Fr Kevin King SJ that has stuck with me.

Beautiful Prayer

I asked God to take away my habit…

God said, No It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole…

God said, No their spirit is whole, their body is only temporary

I asked God to grant me patience.

God said, No patience is a by-product of tribulations; it isn't granted, it is learned

I asked God to give me happiness.

God said, No , I give you blessings; happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.

God said, No Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.

God said, No You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life.

God said, No I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.

I asked God to help me LOVE others as much as He loves me.

God said Ahhh, finally you have the idea.

THIS DAY IS YOURS – DON’T THROW IT AWAY

May God Bless You.  Amen.

In reflecting on a long and busy term, I would like to say well done to everyone for showing up and not giving up - you cannot experience success without both.  The next two weeks provide an opportunity to down tools and re-energise, ready to tackle Term 4 and whatever challenges come our way as we work towards reaching our potential.

Have a great break.

Kind Regards,

James Roberts
