In the kitchen

Students started their first cooking session with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program.

 

Erin and Kristen introduced the various activity groups: Broad Beans, Nasturtiums, Parsley and Warrigal Greens; then the class went to the school garden to try and find their group's assigned vegetables (of which the group names were derived from). After washing all the vegetables together, the students sat in their groups and enjoyed tasting the colourful vegetable varieties, along with the beautiful platter that Kristen and Erin made for them. Included in the platter was some delicious homemade hummus and za'atar. It was wonderful to see the students sample familiar foods, as well as try new ones and comment with their peers on their new favourite vegetables and flavours.
