Year 9 Camps

Year 9 Rites of passage camps continue this week at our Workul Koo Central Coast Retreat Centre, encouraging our students to be Men of Honour and Action, adopting the theme: 'Go and do likewise' from the Parable of the Good Samaritan: Luke 10: 15-37.

Today Mrs Lee and Mr Perry's Homeroom 3 concluded their camp and Mr Cogan and Mr Barnes’ Homeroom 4 began their camp. Student and parent feedback continues to be of the highest order as the students engage in paddleboarding, surfing, bushwalk and first nation's cultural learning as well as a Jesuit self-reflection enneagram and environmental awareness activities including Central Coast inspired environmental and wellbeing movement: Take 3 for the sea!

Concern for online content and young people

In the context of the tragic developments in the middle East which continue to be highlighted on social media, the Office of the Australian eSafety Commissioner has released the following advice for addressing distressing online content.

St Anthony in the Fields Catholic Church Landcare Kieran’s Creek project

Well done to those students including Year 6 Green’s Oliver Ryder who joined the Frenchs Forest Parish Landcare group and our Brigidine College counterparts in working on the rehabilitation of the Kieran’s Creek songline between the Cammeraygal, Cowan and Darkinjung lands. With many of our senior students involved in HSC Maths and Accelerant Maths assessments it has fallen to some of our junior students to maintain our involvement in this Reconciliation project. Please see Mr Brannan if you would like to be involved.

Edmund Rice Education Beyond Borders connections at the Rugby World Cup

It is pleasing to note that while the Wallabies have bowed out of the Rugby World Cup our good friends from Edmund Rice Beyond Borders school Cardinal Newman College, Argentina are represented through their captain, Julian Montoya, who plays his club rugby for Leicester Tigers in the UK.

Cardinal Newman College provide a significant number of Los Pumas National Team and their Principal Mr Alberto Olivero, who was a school mate of Pope Francis, is a good friend of St Pius X College having sent a number of study groups to visit us over recent years when they were kindly hosted by the Masters and Moore families. Even further back the link between Cardinal Newman and St Pius X College was forged in 1985 when our 1st XV Rugby teams played during Newman’s tour.

Ugandan Refugee Guests News

Late in Term 3 as part of our Respectful Relationships program, St Pius X and Mercy College Year 7 and 9 hosted Teddy and Morris, Ugandan Catholic Social Justice advocates and refugees, who were separated from their 5 children in Uganda. Happily we can report that the 5 children arrived in Sydney on Monday of last week after their visas were issued in August. Morris and Teddy were able to raise money for the airfares in part through our Old Boys Association donation.

The “Northern Beaches Refugee Sanctuary” then provided an interest free loan.  In just a few days the application to the board was sent and the money appeared in Morris and Teddy’s bank account.  Payment was made for the airfares with one day to spare.

The children were escorted to Entebbe airport by the retired Cardinal of Uganda and, after flights of almost 38 hours, they arrived in Sydney and were greeted with great emotion.
