Reflection

Prayer for Peace in the Middle East

God of mercy and compassion,

of grace and reconciliation,

pour your power upon all your children in the Middle East:

Jews, Muslims and Christians,

Palestinians and Israelis.

Let hatred be turned into love, fear to trust, despair to hope,

oppression to freedom, occupation to liberation,

that violent encounters may be replaced by loving embraces,

and peace and justice could be experienced by all.

- Reverend Said Ailabouni

As the troubles of the Middle East continue to unfold, let us continue to pray for all the innocent victims who always seem to be in the middle of any conflict.  May the spirit of peace permeate the hearts of people throughout the Middle East, so that they may come together in harmony and cooperation. Help all people to see the value of unity and the possibilities of a brighter future.  Let us hope that through diplomacy and dialogue, a peaceful coexistence in resolving conflicts can be achieved, thus fostering a better future for the innocent people of the region.

Window from Temple McDuagh in the Aran Islands of Inishmore

Here is expressed the simple beauty of an end window from Temple McDuagh in the Aran island of Inishmore. Aran of St Enda was another great nursery of learning, and many were the saints who studied there.

The Junior School has a new home from 2024

Following a significant investigation into the best use of the new Waterford Learning Centre, it became apparent that the WLC would best serve the teaching and learning needs of our junior students.  Therefore, it is with great pleasure that I inform the community that the Waterford Learning Centre will become the new home of our Junior School.  There is much to organise in support of this move but I know that the Waterford Learning Centre will be a great introduction to the future graduates of St Pius X College and a place where the formation of the whole person will commence.

The Waterford Learning Centre – Update

Our newly appointed construction company have indicated that due to unforeseen complications with the investigation into the current state of affairs with the Waterford Learning Centre, the completion date of the WLC will not be until sometime in Term 1 2024.  This is obviously disappointing and will mean a number of initiatives planned for the commencement of 2024 will need to be either postponed or rescheduled until at least the commencement of Term 2.

HSC Examinations continues into Week 2

Please continue to keep all our Year 12 students in your prayers as their HSC Examinations continue into the second week.  The students have been very positive about the examinations so far, so please let us continue with our prayers and best wishes as they head into Week 3.

Staffing News

After a short stay with St Pius X College, Mr Phillip Arthur has resigned from his Science position and accepted a teaching position at Mercy Catholic College. Mr Arthur has been actively involved in the College during his stay, especially with his valued contribution to the Robotics Club.  We wish Mr Arthur all the success in his future endeavours at Mercy Catholic College.

Over the past 5 years Mr Fernando Mendez has been a valued member of the College community. His involvement has not been limited to the TAS Department and his quality timber work, but he has been an active participator in our cocurricular program, the Red Dirt Immersion and so much more.  Mr Mendez has accepted a new position at One School Global at Oatlands and will commence there in Week 5 of this term.  The College would like to thank Mr Mendez for his valued contributions and wish him every success in his new school.

It is with great sadness that after 30 years of service to St Pius X College, Mr Rick Russo has resigned from his position as a College Counsellor.  This was a very difficult decision for Mr Russo because of the friendships he has fostered with staff, students and families of the College.  He was instrumental in the promotion of positive behaviour through the College and initiated many of the programs that have now become embedded in the culture of the College such as Boxercise, the Mentoring program and the Peaceful Kids and Seasons for Growth programs. Though Mr Russo has resigned from his position, the College is hoping to engage with his services in 2024 in support of our wellbeing initiatives.

Thank you to Mr Russo, Mr Mendez and Mr Authur for their positive influence throughout our learning environment.

P&F AGM

A reminder of the P&F Association Annual General Meeting on Monday 30 October 2023.  This is a great opportunity to be part of a fantastic group of parents who look to foster a positive sense of community, engagement, and support for the school, its students, and its families.  Please join us on the AGM.

Cocurricular program continues this week – wearing the correct College uniform

It was a beautiful day last Saturday as we conducted our internal basketball trials and hosted St Stanislaus' in the First XI and 2nd XI cricket. It was pleasing to see so many young men enjoying themselves throughout the day and contributing in a positive manner to to our cocurricular program.

I would like to kindly remind all students that it is essential to wear the designated College attire exclusively during games. When participating in games, students should wear the appropriate College team uniform. This requirement also applies to any student who comes to support their team, that is, they should be dressed in the correct, appropriate College uniform as well.

I kindly request parents and guardians to ensure that their sons are properly attired when traveling to and from both home and away games. We greatly appreciate the commitment of the majority of our students who consistently represent the College with pride by wearing the correct College wear each week. Thank you for your cooperation.
