Principal message

Dear community of St Monica's,

What a spectacular we had on the weekend with our 5/6 production of 'Joseph and his amazing technicolour dreamcoat.' The quality of the show was testament to the commitment of a wonderful team of people and the hard work of our talented students. Thank you to the 5/6 team of teachers who supported Bree and Louise during the preparation, to Tanya  for stage management and props, Carina, Steph and Bec and the team of make up artists, Colm and Jarrod for their willingness to participate as cameos.

Thanks also to Paige and Bron for tickets, promotion and set up. We are very fortunate to have such talent in Bree and Louise. Louise has high expectations and her expectations were reached in this magnificent version of Joseph. Most of all I thank the 5/6 students for their hard work and patience through all the practices. I am very proud of them. See photo gallery for pictures.

We have had an exciting week with the 1-2 excursion to Melbourne Museum and a minibeast visit in prep.

Tuesday we have Grandparents Day at 2.30 in classrooms followed by a cup of tea in the library. 32 students from 5/6 will be competing in the cricket carnival on Tuesday.

Classes for 2024

We are still working on class placement as a staff and we have many layers to consider. We use students sociograms to give students a voice in who they would like to be placed with. We try to balance out the classes and consider knowledge of the students who work well together and support one another. Once we have the class lists we then allocate teachers to the groups. Teachers have not yet been placed in their classes.

Please let me know if your are expecting to leave for 2024 as we are still working on class lists.

Parent engagement survey

Each family was emailed their individual code for the parent engagement survey. The more parents who respond, the more representative the data. If you did not receive it or you need to retrieve your pin please contact the office. (do not share pin numbers with anyone else - they are individualised)

Parents and Friends

Congratulations to Virginia Trimble and Paige Cartwright who have been elected as President and secretary of the P&F as of 2024. I look forward to meeting with Virginia to discuss plans around community engagement, social events and fundraising for 2024. I thank Brianna Andrews for taking on the role of treasurer. If you would like to join the P&F please email

Please check dates to remember page and calendar on Simon Everywhere for other dates.

Over the past few weeks I have been inspired by the quotes of Mary MacKillop from the book Imaging Mary MacKillop by Patricia Snudden rsj. In it she gathers quotes from Mary's letters and has created an image to represent the teaching.

My favourite is-

'Never see a need without doing something about it.'

This is a motto I try to live by. What motto do you live by?

Warm Regards
