COLLEGE NEWS
From the Deputy Principal
As we welcomed back Year 11, ready to become our Year 12 Class of 2024, Term 4 started very positively. I also introduced myself to them and their families, as the relieving Deputy Principal for this wonderful year group.
As students become familiar with NESA requirements and matters related to satisfactorily achieving the HSC qualification, this term is always a busy term academically. These aspects were detailed in depth during the "My HSC Conference Session" during Week 2.
At this conference, all students received:
- The Wyndham College Year 12 2024 HSC Assessment Handbook
- Student Code of Conduct and Senior Commitment Agreement and Handbook
- NESA's HSC Rules and Procedures Handbook.
If your student has not received their copy of these, please ensure they come to my office to receive their copies.
This term will see most subjects conduct the first school-based assessment that will contribute to each student's final HSC mark. It is important that all assessment tasks are :
- submitted on time, i.e. on or before the due date
- in the format stated and required in the notification
Should the need arise the process and communications, related to illness and misadventure, as stated in the Assessment Handbook, are carefully followed.
Remembering marks for Assessment Tasks contribute to the final HSC results, these steps will ensure each student maximises their marks.
Some things to know as we prepare to work together:
- Attendance is vital. I will regularly communicate with students, parents/carers in person and via email/phone regarding attendance. This may be to acknowledge excellent and improved attendance or to raise concerns so as to promptly get back on track.
- Submission of assessment tasks on time will maximise success. It means students won't put themselves in danger of being ineligible to receive the HSC. It also mean students don't need to rely on the HSC exam alone for success. Following NESA and school procedures, in the event of illness/misadventure, must be strictly adhered to.
- Academic and Attendance Reviews. I will be meeting with students to review attendance in Term 4. This will allow me to get to know students and to be aware of their goals and plans. Academic reviews will occur in Term 1 2024 following completion of the first Year 12 Assessment Task in each course. For students, whose academic progress and/or attendance is a concern, parents and carers may be invited to attend the review meeting. Any parent wishing to attend this meeting, online or in person, should send me an email advising of this.
- Engage and participate. This is an exciting year for students and parent/carers. Make sure you get involved. Say 'YES!!' to opportunities and enjoy time with family, friends and teachers. This year is an important one, but please keep it in perspective and don't let things get you down. Speak to someone or seek help if and when needed.
A friendly reminder that school attendance is compulsory up until the age of 17. Following an absence from school, you must ensure you provide a verbal or written explanation for the absence. If a student is absent for five or more days, you will be required to provide a medical certificate. Families are encouraged to travel during school holidays. If travel during the school term is necessary, this needs to be discussed with the College in advance. Absences relating to travel will be marked as leave on the roll and therefore contribute to your child’s total absences for the year.
Finally, the Year 11 Semester Academic Report for students will be uploaded to the Sentral Parent Portal Week 5 - 9-10 November 2023.
I look forward to working with you, as well as meeting you, during our HSC journey together.

Life Ready Program
In Week 2, our Year 12 2024 students participated in the Life Ready Program. They enjoyed workshops on sexual health, car maintenance, household finances, teamwork, sleep and more. It was great to see the students having fun and learning about topics that will support them well into adulthood. As part of these days, students also had their 'My HSC Conference', where they spoke with our new Deputy Principal, Kellie about the expectations for their HSC year.
Term 4 SRC Update
Wyndham College would like to extend a warm welcome to our four new SRC members for the 2023/2024 cohort.
Clement Davidson, Angus Pearce, Taksh Sharma and Komal Sultan joined the current SRC members in Week 3. They will be completing their SRC induction in the coming weeks.
Well done to everyone nominated by their teachers.
