Specialist News

It has been a terrific start to the term in P.E with all classes enjoying being outdoors. All year levels have been participating in a variety of cooperative games that require communication and teamwork.

For the first half of the term each sub school with be focusing on:

Junior School - Fundamental Movement Skills specific to ball control (throwing, catching, rolling, striking)

Middle School - Modified Net Games (Newcombe, Volleyball, Tennis)

Senior School - Net Games (Volleyball, Tennis)

Sporting School Funding Grant

We have been fortunate enough to secure funding to run a 3 week golf program with a qualified coach for year 6, year 5 and year 3 as part of their P.E lessons later in the term.

The year 6 students will also get to have an on course experience at Settlers Run at the conclusion of the program.

Division Athletics

At the end of last term we had 5 students represent the school at Division Athletics. All of the students gave it their very best in windy conditions. Congratulations to Nathan B (Long Jump) and Elliot F (Hurdles) who has qualified for the Regional carnival on Monday 21st October.  A super achievement by both students and we wish them the best.

Lightning Premiers Sports

Year 5 and 6 students thoroughly enjoyed completing a second Lightning Premiers Sports day against schools in our district last term. This is the first time we have conducted two in the year and it's safe to say the students loved trying different sports and making new friends at neighbouring schools. The sports this time round were Basketball, Cricket, Volleyball and Softball.

Big congratulations to our Softball team who progressed to the Division finals to be played on Wednesday 23rd October.

Staff vs Year 6 students basketball game

At the end of term 3 we held our annual game. The court was a hype of excitement with a large crowd cheering on both teams in between dancing to the tunes playing over the speaker.

Needless to say the ‘Staff Space

Jams’ used their height to their advantage. The year 6ers used their speed and showed true determination however it was not enough to get on top of the staff.

The year 6 students are busy plotting their revenge this term - the sport being played is yet to be decided.

Junior School

The Foundation students have begun term 4 discussing safety and safe choices. Talking about how we can make different environments like a playground or riding a bike safer with chives like going during the day and taking an adult.

While the Year 1 and 2 students have been playing cooperative games, working on greeting their partners, taking turns and talking politely to each other.

Middle School

The Year 3 students have been discussing fair play. Playing games that start off unfair and then coming up with ways to make the games more fun and inclusive for all. Our Year 4 students are talking about showing resilience and the importance of being accountable when we make a mistake and that admitting this is also a form of bravery.

Senior School

Our Years 5 and 6 students are currently participating in the Talk About It program. Discussing identity, relationships and sexual health.

Nature Play

In this term’s lessons, students are exploring the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling waste as part of caring for the natural environment. They are learning practical ways they can make a positive impact, such as using less plastic, reusing everyday items, and properly sorting recyclable materials. To demonstrate their understanding, students will design posters encouraging others to adopt these eco-friendly practices, helping to spread awareness within the school community about the importance of protecting our planet.

Kitchen

Our Year 3 students are back in the kitchen, whipping up something delicious! This week, they made apple muffins using apples picked straight from our school trees. The students worked together to stew the apples, learning about the cooking process and the importance of using fresh, local ingredients. It was a fun and tasty way to enjoy the fruits of their labor while honing their cooking skills!

I also need to say a big thank you to Lyn Dean, your help and support is very much appreciated.

Garden

Year 4 students are back in the garden, doing an incredible job maintaining the outdoor spaces around the school! Recently, they worked hard to weed the garden beds around the library and our beautiful bush tucker garden. Along with the weeding, they also planted cucumber and bean plants, getting us ready for a bountiful harvest. The students are learning valuable skills in caring for the environment while contributing to the school community. Well done to all the budding gardeners!

Environmental Science

In Physical Sciences, Year 5 and 6 students have started an exciting new unit on light. They are exploring how light travels by using torches and observing a teacher demonstration with a laser.  Students are also investigating shadows and how they form when light is blocked, we conducted experiments to discover how the position of a light source can affect the size of a shadow.

Artistic Flair

All of the students from F-5 have enjoyed exploring CLAY in the first few weeks of term 4.

We have started by exploring the material and seeing what we can make it do.

Students have tried the following skills:

  • Cutting
  • Rolling
  • Flattening
  • Shaping
  • Adding patterns and texture
  • Wetting
  • Smoothing
  • Scooping and scoring with tools

Year 6 students have been busy designing their artwork for the 2024 legacy project. This year students have voted and are decorating a paver that will be displayed in the school grounds for years to come.
