YEAR 7-9 NEWS

Year 7

Year 7 Boys Cricket

On the 18th of October 24 keen Year 7 Cricketers headed to Eastern Gardens to try their best against some of our neighbouring Geelong Schools.

We were lucky to have two teams represent WHC on this day and some mixed results.

A Team:

Game 1 – WHC 5/59 defeated Oberon 5/24 in 12 overs.

Game 2 – WHC 7/39 lost to Surf Coast SC 3/67 in 11 overs.

B Team:

This team was made up of players who were making their debut in the sport of cricket. The first game our B team lost to Grovedale in one of the greatest demonstrations of sportsmanship in school sport. The second game against Surf Coast SC had the same result, but the team had shown so many improvements in bowling, batting, and fielding in their second game.

Both teams should be very proud of themselves for their display of WHC values in our wider community!

The girls did a great job with the minimal training they had. Their  skills and results were getting stronger and better as the day progressed. The showed great team spirit and beautifully reflected the WHC school values. A great day had by all including the parents that showed up to support our students.

A special thanks to Leanne and Zoe for supporting the team during training sessions. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Music

Start learning an instrument in 2023

Would you like to learn an instrument?

Would you like to share the joy of creating music in a social setting?

The Instrumental Music Programis a great opportunity for students at WHC to learn a musical instrument or participate in vocal training.

Learning music can help students’ self-confidence, self-discipline and teamwork. Music helps students progress in other important learning areas such as Maths and English. Music Australia also notes that countries with a strong focus on music education tend to have higher scores in literacy and numeracy. Engaging music programs have been shown to help with attendance and can be particularly beneficial for students who are not achieving well in school.

Instrumental tuition is offered at WHC for bass and electric guitar, drums, keyboard/piano and vocal, as well as bass (trumpet, trombone, euphonium) and woodwind (saxophone, clarinet, flute).

By participating in a 50-minute lesson each week, students build the technical skills and knowledge to play and perform on their own and with WHC ensembles.

It’s not too late to join the Instrumental Music program in 2023. To enrol and for more information, please contact Matthew Bolton or Christina Bowden on 5277 1177.
