VCE Theatre Studies Monologue Evenings

Across Weeks 1 and 2 of Term 4, the Performing Arts Domain hosted the Unit 4 and Unit 2 Theatre Studies Monologue Evenings, where students presented their monologue interpretations to a panel of three assessors, as well as an open audience of friends, family, and the wider school community.

In the monologue task, students select a monologue from a provided list and can choose to work as an actor/director or designer. Students who choose to work as an actor/director develop a performance of their chosen monologue, while those that choose to work as a designer select two design areas from costume, hair/makeup, set, props, sound, and lighting, to develop and create designs for their chosen monologue.

The evenings provided an excellent opportunity to celebrate the work of students and the range of skills developed in VCE Theatre Studies. The standard of the interpretations presented reflects the work students have put in for many months, with Unit 4 students reporting feeling well prepared by the experience for their final external examination which occurred two weeks later.
