ICT News!

Congratulations to all our students who for a majority of the year have treated their Chromebooks with respect and have followed the protocols and procedures to ensure that their Chromebook has lasted the challenges of the school year.

Chromebooks are valuable tools for learning and productivity, both at school and home.

To ensure your Chromebook stays in good working condition and lasts for the remainder of the school year,  it's important to take proper care of it. This guide provides you with tips on how to look after your Chromebook at both school and home.

  • Carry it Safely: When moving your Chromebook around the school, make sure it's closed and in a protective case or sleeve to prevent accidental damage.
  • Charge Responsibly: Always use the provided charger and ensure it's plugged into a reliable power source. Avoid yanking the charger out by the cord; instead, disconnect it gently.
  • Clean Regularly: Keep your Chromebook clean by wiping the screen and keyboard with a soft, lint-free cloth. Be gentle to avoid scratching the screen.
  • Avoid Food and Liquids: Do not eat or drink near your Chromebook. Spills can cause significant damage. If a spill occurs, turn off your Chromebook immediately and seek assistance.
  • Handle with Care: Treat your Chromebook with care. Avoid dropping it or slamming the lid shut forcefully.

If you encounter any issues with your Chromebook, don't attempt to repair it yourself. Instead, please contact me to seek assistance.

By following these guidelines, you'll extend the life of your Chromebook and ensure it remains a reliable tool for your education and other tasks. Remember, taking good care of your device is not only responsible but also an important step towards making the most of your Chromebook experience.

Occupational Health and Safety

Congratulations and thank you to the parents and caregivers who are following the instructions and allowing traffic to flow freely after school but NOT TURNING RIGHT out of the school gates. By following this rule and being courteous to others it has allowed for a more free and less congested end to the school day.

We also ask to be very vigilant when driving into school and observe the speed limit as we have witnessed a few parents exceeding the recommended speed limit which could lead to a disastrous and sad consequence.

Earlier this term, Rick from RACV visited our school to conduct an interactive and informative session on road safety, home safety, and bicycle safety. The event was organised for Grade 2, 3, and 4 students, and it aimed to educate and raise awareness about essential safety measures for both children and their families.

Road Safety:

The RACV representative began the session by discussing road safety. This segment of the presentation included key points such as:

Crossing the Road Safely: The importance of using pedestrian crossings and waiting for a green light or walk signal when crossing streets.

Seat Belt Use: Emphasis on always wearing a seatbelt in the car and the necessity of booster seats for younger children.

Helmet Safety: The significance of wearing helmets when riding bicycles or scooters to protect against head injuries.

To make the learning experience engaging, a short video and interactive activities were used to reinforce these concepts. The students actively participated, demonstrating their understanding of the discussed safety measures.

Home Safety:

The second part of the presentation focused on home safety. Topics covered included:

Fire Safety: How to react in case of a fire, including stop, drop, and roll.

Emergency Phone Numbers: Teaching students the importance of knowing and memorizing emergency phone numbers like 000 (Australia's emergency number).

Stranger Danger: Explaining what to do when approached by strangers and the importance of not sharing personal information.

The students were actively engaged through role-playing exercises, which helped them better understand how to react to various emergency situations.

Bicycle Safety:

In the final segment of the presentation, the RACV representative discussed bicycle safety, highlighting the following points:

Helmet Safety: Reiterating the importance of wearing a properly fitted helmet while riding a bicycle.

Visibility: Teaching students about the significance of being visible to drivers, including the use of reflective clothing and lights.

Obeying Traffic Rules: Explaining basic traffic rules and the importance of stopping at stop signs and obeying traffic lights when riding a bike.

To make this segment engaging, a demonstration of how to fit a helmet correctly and a practical lesson on hand signals for safe cycling were provided.

The students gained valuable knowledge about staying safe in various situations, and they now have a better understanding of how to protect themselves and make safe choices. This initiative will undoubtedly contribute to a safer environment for our students both in and out of school.

We extend our sincere thanks to RACV for their informative and engaging presentation, and we hope to continue such partnerships to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.

Please continue to be vigilant and report any slippery areas or tripping hazards on the playground to fpiccione@sogsgpark.catholic.edu.au

Physical Education / School Sports!

Go Pies! (Apologies to all non Collingwood Fans!)

Firstly congratulations to the students who have participated in Grand Finals over the last few weeks as most competitions are coming to a close. It is so fantastic to hear from so many students about their achievements!

Good luck and congratulations to all those students who are trialing a new sport or are trying to get involved in a local sport. Please see me if you have any questions or would like some assistance in regards to what sport or club would best suit your child.

As we head towards warmer weather (eventually) this is a timely reminder in regards to making sure our students/children are confident in and around water. Living in Australia, it is almost inevitable that we would spend some time of our holidays near a river, beach or pool. If you have not done so, I would strongly encourage families to organise swimming lessons at one of the many local swimming schools we have around the area. As I did with my own three children, we did not aim for them to become Olympic stars, but we wanted to make sure that they were confident in the water if something were to occur. If you need any help or recommendations please feel free to contact me.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to Joseph H in 3B! Joseph will be playing Rep for the Broadmeadows Broncos in the B12.3 for the 2023/24 VJBL season! Well done Joseph!

If your child has achieved any sporting accolades (e.g. Taekwondo Black Belt, Soccer Championship, Netball Best and Fairest Awards etc) please email them to me on so that we can celebrate them as a community!
