As part of our Big Question, ‘How do we experience light and sound in our lives?’’, Year One students visited The Lume’s‘ Connection’ exhibition in Melbourne on Tuesday 12th
September.
Born from an idea to celebrate First Nations art and music and give back to its artist communities, this experience tells the story of our country's rich cultural history. Connection brings to life over 650 works from 110 visual and musical artists in the world's largest digital art gallery, making it an unmissable experience for all ages. The Grade One students loved the lights, colours, music, videos and art work that were showcased. We all took our writer’s notebooks to jot down our thoughts, particularly around what we could see, feel and hear, and any wonderings that came to mind.
Edward from 1/IJ said the lightning sounds were his favourite.
Zoe B from 1/AO said ‘it was really amazing...everything got projected on the floor.’
Eva from 1/EB described the ‘really cool’ patterns on the wall and the ground.
Bilal from 1/SR said, ‘It’s an exciting place where you get to see lots of lights and hear sounds. I liked it because it started at 50% dark.’
Thank you to all of our parent helpers including Luke, Ysra, Robyn, Julie, Gabrielle, Hugh and Kimberly for your time and support on the day.
Year 3 students travelled to Melbourne on Monday for an excursion to the Metro Tunnel Big Build! This hands-on experience allowed them to dive deep into the world of construction and infrastructure. They were eager to learn about the Metro Tunnel Project's purpose and its significance for future transportation in our city. They learned new construction terms and discovered the complexity of building such a massive project underground. The highlight of the day was when they were able to look through virtual reality headsets to see real life videos of the Metro Tunnel. It was a day filled with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of the remarkable work happening beneath our city's surface.
Coding
A few weeks ago 4AD and 4TN coded the Spheros. We made the Spheros do all kinds of things like, spin, turn, change colour and speed for a long amount of time.
We also did races and challenges, coding them around obstacles, through mazes, up hills and so many other cool things. We hope we can do it again and hopefully do harder challenges.

3D Town
Last week, Year 4 students designed and created a 3D town. It included shops, houses, restaurants, schools, parks and lots of other useful buildings. We spent the whole day building, constructing and adding details to the town. We assigned the roles of all town jobs, made rules and laws and learnt about what form of government controls different parts of the town. The students were extremely excited to share their construction items and had a lot of fun. It was a hard challenge because we had limited resources and we couldn’t use sticky tape on cardboard, which is the main material. It was a good experience and you might be able to do it at home as well.

Design challenge
This week the grade 4s had to design and build an invention based a random selection of objects and ideas. How they got their designs was they had to write down 2 numbers from 1-15 on a sticky note. After they wrote their numbers a key sheet was revealed. The first number represents item numbers correlating to objects . The other number represents the idea for it. For example if you chose 2 and 4 you would get bike and bird so you would have to create a bike inspired by a bird. Then they went on to making and designing. They loved it even though it was challenging.

Andy Griffiths Author Visit
On Tuesday the grade 4s had an online visit from the bestselling author Andy Griffiths. Schools from all over the world experienced the release of the last book of the popular Storey Treehouse series: The 169 Storey Treehouse. He explained about his journey as an author, including the difficulties of working with his companion, Terry Denton. He interacted with everyone and got them to do a fun activity by drawing a new treehouse level. Everyone enjoyed meeting Andy and are excited about reading his new book.

Last week, our young explorers had the opportunity to participate in a unique quest challenge right in the heart of the city.
The Urban Quest Challenge was designed to be an engaging and educational experience, allowing our students to apply their problem-solving skills, teamwork, and navigation abilities while exploring the beautiful Kings Domain Park.
Students tackled a wide range of challenging weather conditions, and we were immensely proud of their enthusiasm, resilience, and the positive energy they brought to this excursion.
“It was fun to work with other people!” – Ava 5/6E
“I really enjoyed it and I liked how everyone was included!” Ollie – 5/6E
“My group had heaps of fun solving puzzles” – Asher 5/6A
Today, the 14th of September, the Year 5/6 students had a market day, where groups had set up stalls for the other year levels to visit. Each group came up with a business plan where they had to think of what they wanted their stall to be like, and how to make their stall stand out and entertain the rest of the school.
These businesses include fortune telling, hair salons, chance games, lemonade stands and many more. All the money raised by the market stalls is being donated to the Child Dementia Institution. This year's Market Day was a big hit and the weather was absolutely glorious. Everyone enjoyed trying out all the fun and unique businesses and winning prizes. We haven’t counted the total amount raised yet, however, we think each group raised around $100 or more and there were 30 groups! Stay tuned to find out how much we raised altogether.

Division Athletic Finals
Last week, twenty-four of our students went to the Newport Athletics Track to participate in the Hobson’s Bay Division Athletics Finals. Many of our students performed remarkably well to win ribbons and qualify for the Western Metro Finals due to take place in mid-October. Congratulations to all of our students who participated on the day and we wish the students who have progressed all the very best at the next level of competition. Students who won ribbons last week were:
