Maths OVERVIEW - Term FOUR

In Maths this term have been looking at different topics within the three strands: Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability.

Number and Algebra: In Number and Algebra to start off the term we covered Triangular and Square numbers. Students explored the formula of these numbers and completed a range of activities to help students understand these concepts. Coming up this term in Number and Algebra we will be revising multiplication and division, BIDMAS and worded problems. Student will also be making their own Mathematics dictionary featuring concepts learnt throughout the year.

Measurement and Geometry: We started out term exploring angles and how to measure angles using a protractor. We looked at how to measure acute, obtuse, straight, reflex, reflection and right angles. Students practiced using a protractor to accurately measure the given angles during different lessons and activities. Later in the term in Measurement and Geometry we will be looking at Volume and Capacity, Length and Measurement using formal and informal units and Time.

Last week students enjoyed making their own pictures and measuring the angles within their picture.

Statistics and Probability:  This week students have been learning about mean, median, mode and range. We have been defining these terms and completing activities linked to these concepts including using a deck of cards to get a set of numbers, rolling a dice to make numbers and answering mean, median, mode and range questions about a given set of numbers.

Buddy sessions are continuing during this year with our sessions moved back to Friday before lunch. We are also continuing our timetables sessions of different students taking the lessons. Last week Sam and Campbell took the Buddies session and this Friday Noah A and Mitch are planning on taking the session. Great work to all students with the positive interactions they are continuing to have with their Foundation buddy.

STUDENT AGENCY ELECTIVES

Last Friday we started our Term Four electives. Students enjoyed their first session and look forward to many more sessions to come.

GRADUATION

Put the date in your diary: THURSDAY 14th DECEMBER, 2023.

Over the coming weeks, we will be rehearsing our speeches, practising our songs and getting ready for our special night. If any of your children are facing difficulty or growing nerves (more negative) please reinforce to them that practice will be had and support is their for them all. If this continues, please make contact with your class teacher and we will continue the support.

On Tuesday 17th October we held our first Parent Support Meeting, which focuses on the organisation and decoration of the gym for our students ceremony and disco. There are a lot of things that need to be done and a lot of fun meeting up and working with other parents.

If you were unable to attend but would like to be part of this group please contact Llew Humphries, who will forward on the minutes and parent emails for you to be in contact with. The more the merrier (and easier).
