Mathematics - Term Four

This term we began with the addition, subtraction and multiplication. The students participated in varied activities reinforcing their understanding, and working toward automatic recall of number facts.

We have been discovering many different units of measurement in mathematics including time, length, perimeter, and mass.

 Students have been using informal units such as counters and unifix blocks to measure length. We then used rulers to measure length and perimeter formally using centimeters and meters. We had a great time going outside with trundle wheels to measure large distances around the school.

Minbeast Safari

Last week, our Ye students joined together and to go on a minibeast safari around the school playground. We found many different creatures and we used magnifying glasses to study them and then we recorded their features.

Take Home Readers

As part of InitiaLit-2, students have free-choice of short and extended chapter books to take home and read. Year Two students are able to choose up to four readers from school to take home weekly and read nightly. Students in Year Two are also free to choose books from home to read each night if they wish. Students who choose their readers on a Monday are required to return them the following Monday. After reading, please record the name of the book in the InitiaLit Home Reading Diary for the day.
