From the Acting Principal

Mr Stephen Arthurson

Dear Families,

Our St Anne’s school prayer concludes with the line may the door to our school always be

open and welcoming. You’ve probably looked at our school logo hundreds of times, but have you noticed the blue door on the left hand side? This clever piece of graphic design, an open door directly underneath the arm of the cross, symbolises an open and inviting Catholic community aiming to live out the example set by Jesus Christ. It is hoped that everyone at St Anne’s has had many experiences of feeling welcomed and of being welcoming to others. It is certainly integral to what makes our school a great place to be.

I trust that all our students have returned from their September break with batteries recharged, ready for a productive final term of learning for 2023. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge our Year Six students as they enter their final weeks of primary school. They have been a fantastic cohort since commencing in Prep and I am sure they will use this final term to leave us with lasting memories through their positive words and actions.

In chatting to students over the last couple of days, it sounds like the September break provided lots of different opportunities, including

  • Attending Cubaree 2023 with around 3500 other Cubs
  • Spending quality time with grandparents and cousins
  • Driving to different towns within and beyond Victoria
  • Sleeping in or staying up late (but not too late, according to one student!)
  • Watching Collingwood win (congratulations to those students and staff who are part of the Magpie Army, even those who chose to risk detention by wearing a touch of black and white on Monday)

School itself was a busy place over the break with the completion of Stage One of our toilet refurbishment. Work has now moved to the toilets near the Library, which are due for completion by the end of November. This means that the area between the oval and the junior building has been reopened, as well as the access gate near the Drop Off zone. We thank everyone for their patience as we managed Term Three with limited access to some of our Junior rooms. Landscaping work has also commenced on the Stewarts Lane side, which is designed to open up the entrance to the school. We are currently awaiting some sunny days so that concrete paths can be poured.

On Wednesday, a number of students will be representing the Sunbury District at the Northern Region Metropolitan Athletics Championships in Epping. This is the level of competition just below the State Championships, so it is a great achievement. We wish the following students all the very best - Eliza L, Will R, Ebony, Rejoice, Sabella, Lenny, Kwel, Carter & James.

Noelene is on Long Service Leave for the next two weeks and is currently enjoying the warmth of sunny Barcelona. In her absence, I encourage you to reach out to me or the members of our leadership team with any compliments, questions or concerns that may arise.

Warm regards and God’s blessings,

Stephen

Swimming Program - Update

Due to delays in the reopening of the Sunbury Aquatic Centre indoor pool, our revised swimming program looks like this. Further details to come as more information comes to hand.

Year 3 - Week 5 - 30 October - 3 November

Year 2 - Week 8 - 20 November - 24 November

Unfortunately, this means that our Year 4 students will be unable to attend swimming.
