Assistant Year Adviser Address

Ms Selby's Speech - Graduation Night

Year 12 - Class of 2023! You've already spent the better part of this whole afternoon listening to speeches, so I thought I’d keep things short and sweet.

I am so very glad to say congratulations to each and every one of you! You made it! This time is no doubt bittersweet as it is the time to close this chapter of your lives.

I know that my time as your Assistant Year Advisor was short, having only stepped into the role as you entered your senior years. I’d really like to acknowledge the work of those who came before me: Mrs Field, Miss Ghali and Mr Chapman who saw you through your junior years.

This grade has left me with so many cherished and unforgettable memories: Salam and the barbeque fire, Shahla and her battle with the high ropes course - just to name a few.

It has been an honour to watch each of you grow and mature over the last two years. As you leave here tonight and step out into the real world, I want you to remember that it's perfectly okay to stumble, to make mistakes (and bad decisions), and most importantly, to ask for help when you need it.

You are a truly remarkable, resilient bunch, and the world is waiting to be charmed by your unique talents and quirks. So, go out there, and pursue the things that make you happy. People will tell you life is more complicated than that. I promise it isn't.

So, one last congratulations, Class of 2023! Enjoy the rest of the night and dance your hearts out as you celebrate this milestone. Each and every one you have earned that. 🎓🎉
