We would like to inform families that a range of important school policies are available for your information and reference on our school website. These policies outline how our school operates and help ensure we provide a safe, supportive and consistent learning environment for all students.

We encourage parents and carers to take the time to read through these documents at their convenience. If you have any questions regarding a policy, please feel free to contact the General Office and we will be happy to assist you

Privacy Reminder for Families

Each year, schools are required to remind students, parents and carers about how we collect, use and protect personal information.

Our College is committed to protecting the privacy of all members of our school community and to meeting our obligations under the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic). This includes how personal information is handled when using digital platforms such as Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace for Education.

We encourage families to familiarise themselves with the following important information and policies, which outline how student information, images and recordings are collected and used:

  • School Privacy Policy – available on our school website
  • Photographing, Filming and Recording Students Policy – available on our school website
  • Parent information for Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace for Education – outlining how these platforms are used to support teaching and learning

The Department of Education continues to support schools in managing privacy and information security obligations, and we appreciate the ongoing partnership of families in ensuring student information is handled safely and appropriately.

If you have any questions about privacy or the use of digital platforms at the College, please contact the school office.

Mortlake College Child Safety

Mortlake College is a child safe organisation which welcomes all children, young people and their families.

We are committed to providing environments where our students are safe and feel safe, where their participation is valued, their views respected, and their voices are heard about decisions that affect their lives. Our child safe policies, strategies and practices are inclusive of the needs of all children and students.

We have zero tolerance for child abuse and take proactive steps to identify and manage any risks of harm to students in our school environments.

We promote positive relationships between students and adults and between students and their peers. These relationships are based on trust and respect.

We take proactive steps to identify and manage any risk of harm to students in our school environment. When child safety concerns are raised or identified, we treat these seriously and respond promptly and thoroughly.

Particular attention is given to the child safety needs of Aboriginal students, those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, international students, students with disabilities, those unable to live at home, children and young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex, queer, questioning and asexual (LGBTIQA+) and other students experiencing risk or vulnerability. Inappropriate or harmful behaviour targeting students based on these or other characteristics, such as racism or homophobia, are not tolerated at our school, and any instances identified will be addressed with appropriate consequences.

Child safety is a shared responsibility. Every person involved in our school has an important role in promoting child safety and wellbeing and promptly raising any issues or concerns about a child’s safety.

We are committed to regularly reviewing our child safe practices, and seeking input from our students, families, staff, and volunteers to inform our ongoing strategies.

The Child Safe policy is located on the school website: Mortlake College Child Safe

A reminder to families that students are not permitted to use mobile phones during the school day

This expectation is in line with the Department of Education’s Mobile Phones Policy, which applies to all Victorian government schools.

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Support student wellbeing and mental health
  • Reduce distractions and improve focus on learning
  • Promote positive social interactions during recess and lunchtime
  • Minimise issues related to online safety, cyberbullying, and misuse of devices

Mobile phones brought to school must be switched off and stored securely for the duration of the school day. Students can access school phones via the General Office if they need to contact home, and families can contact students through the school if needed.

We appreciate the support of families in reinforcing this expectation with students. By working together, we help create a safe, calm, and focused learning environment for all.
