How We Organise Ourselves
Central Idea
Schools are organised to help us learn and play together.
Prep students will be stepping into the Performing Arts space with curiosity and imagination! This term they will explore music and movement through playful activities, echo songs, puppets, and sound exploration. Students will experiment with beat, rhythm and expressive movement as they learn how to work together, follow routines and use their bodies and voices creatively. Performing Arts becomes a joyful place where they discover how school helps us learn, cooperate and connect.

Central Idea
The decisions people make influence their relationships with each other.
Year 1 students jump into a term filled with interactive songs, movement adventures and rhythm challenges. They will explore how their bodies, voices and instruments can be used to communicate emotions and solve problems together. Students experience the power of cooperation through group performances, echo games and partner activities, discovering how their behaviour affects harmony in the classroom and in the Performing Arts space.

Positive relationships contribute to a harmonious community.
Year 2 students will dive deeper into ensemble musicmaking, exploring how musical groups rely on listening, cooperation and shared responsibility. Through drumming patterns, movement tasks, ‘call and response’ and improvisation; students discover how their actions affect others.

Central Idea
Communication is influenced by feelings and emotions.
This term, Year 3 students become expressive artists as they explore how music and movement can show different emotions. Through rhythm creation, expressive dance, pitch work and the introduction of written notation, students discover how artists communicate feelings without words. They will experiment with tempo, dynamics and musical texture to show their own ideas and interpret the feelings in others’ performances.

Sharing the Planet
Central Idea
All children have rights regardless of who they are.
Year 4 students will travel the world through music! They will explore drumming patterns, melodic traditions and movement styles from a range of cultures while discussing what creative expression means to children everywhere.
Students will examine how the arts can celebrate identity and why every child deserves opportunities to participate in creative experiences, no matter where they live or who they are.

Central Idea
Different perspectives influence the way people treat each other.
Year 5 students become creative thinkers this term as they explore how different perspectives can shape music and performance. They will experiment with musical contrast, compose short rhythmic and melodic ideas and work in ensembles to show different viewpoints through sound. Students will reflect on how diverse ideas strengthen group performances and how respectful relationships help creative teams thrive.

How We Express Ourselves
Central Idea
Leaders possess unique qualities.
Year 6 students will step into leadership roles in the Performing Arts space. They will explore how musicians and performers guide others through gestures, expression, decision making and creative risk taking.
Through group tasks, conducting, choreography and performance challenges, students will see how leadership qualities, such as courage, empathy, initiative and communication, come to life in the arts.
