Principal's Report

Dear BNPS Community,
Welcome back - I cannot believe it is Week 4 already! I would like to extend my heartfelt welcome to all of our new families. You have chosen a wonderful community school, and we look forward to our partnership with you.
I have been thrilled to see our students engaging with the new lesson materials delivered as part of our switch to explicit teaching. Teachers are putting their learning about how the brain works into action, and we are already noticing students responding with clear indicators of strong understanding. Our progress monitoring data will help us to stay on track and identify when there is a need to intervene.
The support of the PFA is something we are grateful for everyday at BNPS. To enhance our explicit and precise instruction, the PFA purchased document cameras for every class.
Teachers are using them as part of their mathematics lessons, but also to read stories and allow all students to see the pictures, show exemplars of excellent student work, and to accurately model correct pencil grip - a very important skill for ALL students.
The PFA is also responsible for our beautiful new basketball court surface. We left the fencing up over the summer break so that our students would be the first to enjoy the improvement works. It looks stunning and it is a joy to see the energy and enthusiasm on display. Thank you to Catherine and Nat for your seemingly endless commitment to our school.
The first assembly in Week 3 was a fun and light welcome to our whole school. The students, even our tiny Preps, managed to sit beautifully in their lines and sing Advance Australia Fair together. We welcomed our new Assistant Principal, Jen Hayes, to the community, then the whole staff of teachers and support staff who make this place tick.
Our new team of student leaders, Evelyn, Betty, Cormac, and Spencer did a fabulous job of leading the school. Well, done to all of you!
Finally, Week 4 saw the commencement of our lunch club program. All year 6 students are involved, one way or another, as leaders in our community. Active citizenship is a very important element of the IB, and our students are demonstrating this by signing up to support clubs. Watch this space for photos and updates. The clubs running each week are:
| Chomp Saws | Run club |
| Chess | Art - installation |
| Art - drawing | Choir |
| Drama | 3D printing and clay modelling |
| Library | Prep and Year 1 Games |
| Drama | Senior Mindfulness |
| Board Games | Sport Training |
Board Games Club
Finally, I want to mention our upcoming fete. On March 28, BNPS will enjoy an incredible experience together and I ask you all to bring along everybody you know. The more the merrier.
Wishing you all the very best,
Julia Stoppa
Principal
