The Transfiguration
Matthew 17:1-9
In yesterday's Gospel (Matthew 17:1–9), we hear the story of the Transfiguration. Jesus takes Peter, James and John up a high mountain. There, something extraordinary happens — Jesus’ appearance changes, His face shines like the sun and His clothes become dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appear beside Him, showing that Jesus is the fulfilment of the Law and the Prophets.
A bright cloud surrounds them and they hear God’s voice say, “This is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. Listen to Him.” The disciples are afraid, but Jesus gently reassures them, telling them not to be afraid.
This Gospel reminds us that Jesus is truly the Son of God and invites us to listen to Him in our daily lives. At St Liborius, we are called to listen to Jesus through prayer, through reading Scripture, and through the way we treat one another with kindness and respect. May we continue to grow as a community that listens, trusts and follows Him.
Prayer
Loving God,
You revealed Your glory through Your Son, Jesus.
Help us at St Liborius to listen carefully to His voice.
When we feel confident, keep us humble.
When we feel afraid, remind us that You are near.
May our words be kind, our actions be thoughtful,
and our hearts open to Your guidance.
Let our school community shine with the light of Christ in our classrooms,
our playground and our homes.
We ask this through Jesus, Your beloved Son.
Amen.
ASH WEDNESDAY REFLECTION
Thank you to Fr Stephen and to a team of Year 6 Leaders who led us in our Ash Wednesday liturgy. Students gathered in the amphitheatre of the Josephite Learning Building where they received the blessed ashes on their forehead as a reminder to be kind, and to say sorry when we have made the wrong choice.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent. This is a time for us to be still, to pray, and to help others in need; all as we prepare our hearts for Easter.
PROJECT COMPASSION
Project Compassion is an annual Lenten fundraiser and awareness appeal.
Annually, 1,700 schools and 1,200 parishes across Australia take part, with Caritas Australia calling on the community to Unite Against Poverty for Project Compassion.
We thank the St Liborius School community who continue to generously donate lose coin to fundraise and unite against poverty for project compassion.
Each classroom has a project compassion box on their prayer tables, and there is a larger box in the office foyer. Any coin donations are greatly appreciated.
