The first Boarding House theme night of the year set an incredibly high bar, with our Valentine’s Day Wedding Night. From the moment the outfits appeared, it was clear this was going to be a night full of energy, laughter and unforgettable moments. The boarders embraced the theme wholeheartedly, throwing themselves into the spirit of the evening.
What stood out most was the leadership shown by our Boarding House Captains and Year 12 boarders, who are clearly taking House spirit to a new level in 2026. Their enthusiasm set the tone and encouraged everyone to get involved, regardless of how silly or embarrassing the moment might be. There were plenty of laughs and more than a few awkward wedding-style moments, reminding us just how real and grounded our boarders are. It was a fantastic way to begin the year and a brilliant example of the positive culture within our boarding community.

The Port Fairy surfing trip last weekend was a wonderful example of what boarding is all about. Set against the backdrop of our iconic Australian coastline, boarders spent the day supporting one another, enjoying the beach, and for many, stepping well outside their comfort zones by trying something new.
Whether standing up on a board for the first time or cheering from the shoreline, everyone was involved and engaged. Experiences like this matter. When boarders are active together and share challenges, laughter and success, strong bonds are formed. It is these shared experiences that bring students closer, strengthen friendships, and lay the foundations for lifelong connections that extend well beyond their boarding years. These are not complex activities, and they don’t have to be; they just have to be meaningful and engaging for adolescents to give them a go. Likewise, it may not be everyone’s preference, but being involved brings young people to a deeper level.

Henry started his boarding journey at College this year. Originating from Hong Kong, Henry chose our school because it was something different. So far, Henry has enjoyed the environment and feels it is very hot here. (We will check back in with Henry in August and see what he thinks!)
Henry’s mum and dad think his new place of education is ‘cool’. Henry is really looking forward to improving his English, which is already very good, and the opportunity to ride a horse at the Equestrian Centre. He has already met a few Australian friends in his year group who have been very welcoming: Henry, Lucas, Hunter, Jack and George. Henry’s looking forward to possibly visiting a farm one day, the city of Melbourne, and attending a soccer match. The most difficult part of boarding has been his organisation and time management, which, understandably, is a challenge for all of us when we begin boarding.
Well done, Henry, for such a super start to your College journey and boarding experience.
