From the Houses

At the start of 2026, MEBS welcomed new Boarders Toby, Oliver, Jacob, Jaxon, William, Joshua, Ryan, Sebastian, Montana, and Stella into our community. They all arrived excited but a little anxious. Within a very short time, boarding has become part of their weekly routine, becoming valued members of MEBS, and each one brings their own unique personality.  Our boarders tell us that being away from home each week makes going home at the end of the week even better, as they go back to family and hometown friends. The first days back are very special as we watch friends greet each other to share news of their weekend activities. It is noticeable already how they have grown and changed in the short time they have been in boarding. The excitement as they greet each other is infectious.

During the first 5 weeks,  we have been busy settling into 2026. All terms are busy; Term 1 2026 is no exception. There have been school/staff photos, the Bryne Shield, MDCC Year 12 retreat, MDCC & KCC swim carnivals, as well as birthday celebrations,  a special breakfast for the school boarders who have remained back while their peers have a student-free day,  and our boarding leaders have met to discuss issues around boarding. Past students Missy and Neve have visited us, and promotional visits to Tumut, Temora and Cootamundra by Principals, the Head of Boarding and Boarding students.

The remainder of Term 1 will speed by as we celebrate birthdays for the term with a dinner chosen by the birthday boarders that includes a special dessert.

Rice House and Nagle House have organised with support of our Activities Officer, their own off-campus activities.  Coming up soon will be the annual Mixed Netball tournament and the celebration of St Patrick's Day. Dressing up for this occasion, the staff and students have great fun. This term will also see the Boarders involved in the annual Easter egg hunt, which is always fun.

 NAGLE HOUSE

The start of the year, while hot, was a lot of fun as the girls caught up on holiday news and adventures. The exciting chatter brought Nagle House to life.

The new boarders, Stella and Montana, were warmly welcomed by the returning boarders and helped with the daily organisation of boarding life and school. Both girls have settled into MEBS life so well and are very much an integral part of the community.

Year 10 have realised their goal of the privilege of street leave without going as a group of juniors with a supervisor. The hot weather has limited their enthusiasm to walk to the malls, but a trip to Maccas is easily accessible.

Year 11 have noticed the increase in homework expectations, and Year 12 are realising the limited time left in their school life.

Overall, the start of 2026 has been a positive and happy return to Nagle House.

RICE HOUSE

Year 11 Boarder Sebastian recently played in the Byrnes Shield cricket. Sebastian got four wickets for four runs and was named the man of the match. Well done for the great achievements.

On Tuesday 24 March, Rice House took part in an organised group activity at Pitch and Putt. We then went to the beach and enjoyed pizza for dinner, followed by dessert at Maccas. Everyone had a terrific time.
