Years 9-12 Vocalist
Vocal specialist Katy Raucher, a lecturer at the University of Tasmania, led an inspiring and engaging Master Class today in Music, collaborating with an enthusiastic group of Year 9-12 vocalists at Leighland. Throughout the session, Katy shared her extensive knowledge and expertise in vocal techniques, helping students refine their skills and build confidence in their performances.
Year 9 Health Careers
Some of our Year 9 girls attended a Health Careers day at the Rural health clinic school, Mersey community hospital. They had the opportunity to experience various health careers. From physiotherapy, maternity nursing, speech therapy, occupational therapy, medical skills, theatre nursing, emergency nursing, psychology, social worker and many more. It was an insightful and inspirational day.
Year 10 Spring Ball
Our Year 10 Spring Ball was a heartfelt celebration of the students’ journey and achievements over the years. As they gathered in their formal attire, the air was filled with excitement and nostalgia, reflecting on friendships formed and memories created. The evening featured a beautifully decorated venue, complete with twinkling lights and vibrant decorations, setting the stage for an unforgettable night. With delicious food, lively music, and joyful dancing, students took a moment to read their letters they wrote in Year 7 to themselves. Every student received an award reflecting the hopes and quirks of the students, from "Most Likely to Become a Future Leader" to "Most Likely to Travel the World". Celebrating not just the end of the year but the bonds that will last a lifetime. The Spring Ball was a fitting tribute to their growth and a cherished milestone as they look forward to the future.
Year 9 Space and Measurement
9B finished their unit on Space & Measurement with some playful learning in which they explored changeable magnetic cubes. Some collaborated to create the tallest tower with arrangements of the cubes that slotted into each other neatly. A shout out to Thomas, Rori, Isla, Hayley, Lachlan, Thomas, Haylen and Josiah, as well as Ruby (not pictured). Josiah led the arrangement of the tower shapes. Haylen formed the final shape needed for the top of the tower. Thomas chose to determine the surface area of a shape he had made using area formulae and some direct measurement. This was a fitting end to a unit in which most students in the class improved by a full grade in this curriculum strand, through the module work completed and then mastered in Maths Pathway.
