Greater Western Athletics

This Friday 11th October, some students from Years 4-6 have qualified for the Greater Western Athletics Championships. This will take place at the Ballarat Regional Athletics Centre. The bus will leave St Mary’s Church Carpark at 7:30am and return to St Mary’s Church Carpark at 4:00pm.

Athletes will need to wear their sports uniform and school hat on the day. Please apply sunscreen before you leave home. Extra clothing may also be needed (please keep an eye on the weather forecast).

Students will need their lunch, fruit, snacks and a water bottle. A canteen is available on the day. Greater Western Athletic merchandise will also be available to purchase.

Basketball. T-20 Cricket & Hot Shots Tennis Trials

Students in Years 5 and 6 have the chance to sign up to trial for the summer sports events of Basketball, T-20 Cricket and Hot Shots Tennis. Sign up sheets are located in the gym on the “Sports Board”. Interested students need to put their name on a sport, or all three if they are interested in trying out for the Sacred Heart teams. 

 

State Netball Finals

Well done to the Year 6 boys who competed in the State Netball Championships at Waverley Netball Centre, Wheelers Hill in the last week of Term 3. The boys did very well against some very tough (and tall) competitors. A big thank you to all the parents, guardians and grandparents who supported the day.

AFL 9’s Football

Congratulations to both AFL 9’s teams (boys and girls) who were the overall winners in the Greater Western AFL 9’s Regional finals last week in Ballarat last term. These students will now compete in the State AFL 9’s Final on Wednesday 27th November at Latrobe University, Bundoora. Students will travel by bus to this event. 

(More information will be sent home via PAM closer to the event). 

 

Foundation Swimming Program

The Foundation swimming program will start this Wednesday 9th October at Heather’s Swim School. This will take place each Wednesday except for Week 2 where the students will swim on Tuesday 15th October instead of the Wednesday (due to other commitments). 

Students are reminded that they need swimming bathers, a towel and goggles (all clearly labelled). Students may wear their sports uniform each Wednesday for the swimming program (please label each item, you would be surprised how many children have the same shoes with the same size etc). 

Swimming times will be as follows:

(FSF) at 11:30am – 12:00pm 

(FME) at 12:00pm – 12:30pm

(FSN) at 12:30pm – 1:00pm 

 

A big thank you to the parents who have offered to help with the swimming program, a roster has been sent home to these parents.

 

Year 4 Swimming Program

The Year 4 swimming program will start this week at Bluewater Leisure Centre.

The days and dates are the following: 

 

Wednesday 9th October  ]  4TR - 12:30-1:00pm

                                                 ]  4SF - 1:30-2:00pm

Students are reminded that they need swimming bathers, a towel and goggles (all clearly labelled). Students may wear their sports uniform for the swimming program (please label each item). Students will walk to the Bluewater and back to school (unless it is a ‘wet weather day’). 

Thanks to the parents who have offered to walk with the students. Can you please meet the class and teacher at the small Pound Road Gate 45 minutes before the lesson?

Colac Division Golf Tournament

Unfortunately we had to postpone the Colac Division Golf Tournament last Friday due to the weather conditions. The new date for the golf tournament is Friday 15th November.

Name: Nash Charles (Yr 6KT)

1. What sports do you play? The sport I play is athletics (track and field).

2. Which sport is your favourite to play? My favourite part of athletics is the running.

3. Why is this your favourite sport? Track and field is my favourite sport because I am good at it and it is fun.

4. What is your proudest sporting moment? My proudest sporting moment was when I first qualified to compete in Regionals for Track and Field.

5. What are your strengths that help you with sport? My strengths in athletics is my running skills and I am very flexible for hurdles.

6. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because it keeps me fit.

7. Who is your favourite sports person? My favourite sports person is Usain Bolt, he was said to be the greatest sprinter of all time.

8. Why are they your favourite? Bolt is my favourite sports person because he is an 8 time Olympic gold medalist.

9. What is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sports team is South Colac.

10. How would your coaches and teammates describe you? My coach and team mates would say that I am fast.

3. Why is this your favourite sport? Netball is my favourite sport because I love the game and enjoy playing with my friends. 

4. What is your proudest sporting moment? My proudest sporting moment was when I shot five goals in a netball match.

5. What are your strengths that help you with sport? My strengths in sport is my goal shooting.

6. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because it keeps me fit and I like being active.

7. Who is your favourite sports person? My favourite sports person is Sam Kerr.

8. Why are they your favourite? Sam Kerr is my favourite sports player because she inspires me to work hard like she does.

9. What is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sports team is the Geelong Cats.

10. How would your coaches and teammates describe you? My coach and team mates would say that I am good at shooting goals and I am a good sport.

8. Why are they your favourite? Lebron James is my favourite sports person because he is a very good basketball player and I love playing basketball.

10. How would your coaches and teammates describe you? Coaches and teammates would say that I am a good player and a good sport.

2. Which sport is your favourite to play? My favourite sport to play is soccer.

3. Why is this your favourite sport? Soccer is my favourite sport because it is a fun game to play and I like the competition.

4. What is your proudest sporting moment? My proudest sporting moment was when I won the grandfinal.

5. What are your strengths that help you with sport? My strength in soccer is that I have a very powerful foot for kicking the soccer ball.

6. Why do you love playing sports? I love playing sport because it is fun, I get to play with my friends and it keeps me fit.

7. Who is your favourite sports person? My favourite sports person is soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo.

8. Why are they your favourite? Ronaldo is my favourite sports person because he is a very good soccer player.

9. What is your favourite sporting team? My favourite sporting team is soccer team Manchester City.

10. How would your coaches and teammates describe you? Coaches and teammates would say that I am fast, a good player and very useful.
