Britton Shield Aquathlon: Clayfield Athletes Shine in Strong Performances

Under clear skies and bright sunshine, our Year 2 to 6 aquathletes arrived prepared and excited for the Britton Shield Aquathlon. The event started with a skills session, allowing the participants to familiarise themselves with the course layout and transition zones before the competition began.

The races opened with the 8-year-olds, marking a debut aquathlon experience for many of our young athletes. Among the stand-out performances was Sam Gordan, who secured an impressive second place in his category. In the 10-year division, Hugo Fitzhenry also claimed a strong second place, while Charlie Quinn delivered an outstanding effort to finish first.

The Clayfield College team displayed impressive competitive spirit throughout the day, reflecting their preparation and training. Their collective effort earned the team an overall second place finish in the competition. The Sports Department extends its thanks to the staff and student volunteers for their contributions to the smooth running of the event and congratulates all the Clayfield athletes on their remarkable performances.

In addition to her gymnastics success, Lia also competed in the Queensland International Taekwondo Federation Competition, where she took part in the 10 to 15 years division. Competing as a red belt, Lia secured first place in the pattern division and third place in the heavyweight sparring division.

Britton Shield Competition Update

The Britton Shield competition is a cherished part of our co-curricular program for boys in Years 2 to 6.

One of the member schools, Moreton Bay Boys’ College (MBBC), are heading in a different direction for their sports program and therefore will not be participating moving forward.

In light of this change, the remaining member schools have chosen to expand the competition by inviting additional schools to join the association. We view this as an exciting opportunity for growth and are committed to enhancing the Britton Shield offerings for our boys from 2025. The process of reaching out to new schools is already underway, and we look forward to sharing more details with you soon.

Additionally, we are thrilled to announce plans to further enrich our club sport offerings beginning in Year 5. Our Upper Primary students have had a fantastic experience participating in the Brisbane Basketball Inc (BBI) club competition this year, and we are eager to introduce even more club sports next year, tailored to the interests of our boys.

We are excited about the future of the Britton Shield and our club sports program, and we look forward to keeping you updated.
