Mrs Audrey Fellowes - Deputy Principal/Head of Primary
We look forward to parents/caregivers joining us for our Prep to Year 1 Exhibition Swimming Carnival next Wednesday 30 October.
The carnival will be held in sessions, with each session running for approximately 40 minutes each. During the session the students will showcase the skills they have been learning in their swimming lessons. They will then take part in a few non-competitive races against their classmates.
Please refer to emailed communication from the Sports Department for more detailed information and requirements.
As previously communicated in the Term 4 Welcome Back letter, we are very excited to welcome our new and transitioning students from Pre-Prep to Year 5 into their 2025 year levels in Week 5 on Thursday 31 October.
For current students at the College, this will be a regular school day. They will spend the morning immersed in a different classroom and environment, meet some of the new friends who will be joining the cohort, and complete some learning for the year level above.
Please be aware that the teachers the students will be placed with on Orientation Day won’t necessarily be the teachers they will have for the 2025 school year.
Our teachers occasionally move from one year level to another in the Primary years. Classes and teachers will be shared with our community ahead of the new school year.
On this day, our current Year 6 students will be involved in an alternate program for Lessons 1 and 2. Those students moving on from the College in 2025 will also have an alternate program while their cohort are busy moving up.
That is what our Pre-Prep children do every day. No wonder Clayfield College and Pre-Prep have been recognised as a SunSmart environment! Our children play in hats outdoors every day and wear collared shirts that minimise their exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
The supportiveness of parents in putting on sunscreen before morning drop-offs is much appreciated. In fact, legislation requires that this is documented so between parent sign-in records and our Storypark digital platform, we keep close records to ensure everyone is sun safe. SPF50+ broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen is applied at least 20 minutes before going outside and is reapplied every 2 hours when outdoors for extended periods of time.
The children love to reapply their own sunscreen and handy mirrors at their eye level help them check they have rubbed it in. Our playgrounds offer extensive shade, and our educators closely monitor UV ratings to make the best decisions for scheduling outdoor activities. Well done to the Primary team for setting a great example in our school. What can you do to improve your own sun safe habits?
Should you wish to contact Homework Club after hours on Monday to Thursday between 4:00pm and 5:00pm, please call 3262 0281.
As we plan for the 2025 school year, the class teachers will be organising class placements. Much time and effort will be placed into these decisions, with the teacher’s knowledge of friendships and how their students work best in the classroom. Considerations are also made on new students to the College and student learning needs across the cohort, to support a balanced class in all areas.
We appreciate your trust in our expertise in forming our classes, which are prepared with thorough review and discussion with the Primary Teaching Staff. Whilst we understand parents may have requests for specific teachers or peer groups, this is not our process and would appreciate your understanding. Classes will be shared with our families in the new year, ahead of the 2025 school year. If you have any questions or concerns with this, please contact Mrs Fellowes.
Please remember to support our Primary Captains and the Student Representative Council in their collection drive for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
We have already received so many wonderful donations for new toys, books, toiletries, and gift cards!
We are still looking for other essential items for families, including clothing, activity books, pens and notebooks, or supermarket or department store gift cards. Boxes will be provided in each classroom for your donations.
*Please note that items must be brand new, as Ronald McDonald House Charities cannot accept second-hand items due to safety regulations.
Thank you so much for your support. We can’t wait to see our Primary School making an impact on the lives of families in our wider community!
Our Buy One, Get One Free book fair is an in-person-only event and will open on Thursday 24 October at 3:15pm. Books are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no option to purchase online or student wish list capability. We accept all cards except Amex.
You are welcome to bring your child (or come alone!) before or after school from Friday 25 October to Wednesday 30 October from 7:30am to 8:30am and from 3:15pm to 4:15pm each day. Our special opening night will run from 3:15pm to 5:00pm on Thursday 24 October.
You are welcome to take your free books with you or donate them to the Primary Library.
We look forward to seeing you in the Lower LRC for some early Christmas shopping!
