Big Big Week – Un viaje mágico was an Unforgettable Success!
Congratulations to all of our student stars and cast for delivering a spectacular show that will be remembered for years to come. Our specialist team truly outdid themselves, going above and beyond to ensure the success of this two-night extravaganza. This incredible event wouldn’t have been possible without the tireless efforts of our staff, parent volunteers, and most importantly, everyone who attended. It was truly the highlight of the year!
A special congratulations to the main cast and secondary characters for delivering such a flawless performance. When we talk about core memories, Freddie’s portrayal of the Llama stands out as a top contender for best-played animal ever in a show. Ramona’s intensity during Bamboleo was worthy of a So You Think You Can Dance revival, and Ali’s persistent, disgruntled desire to just go home was the perfect comic touch. There were so many highlights throughout the show that will be talked about for the rest of the year.
A massive congratulations to all of the cast members:

Just when you thought it was all over, there are still more exciting things to come at Newlands next week, but let’s find out what’s been going on in the classroom first!
Foundation Art Class
Today, I joined the Foundation Art class and sat with Sunny, Sevy, Pearl, Quinn, and Unax. They excitedly showed me all the shapes they had drawn—circulo, triangulo, diamante and cuadrado. Their drawings followed a reading of the classic book ‘Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus’. It was also great to hear them chat about their favourite parts of the concert. It was funny to note that none of them were scared or nervous and instead loved all the cheering and excitement from the audience!
1/2 Literacy Session
Today during the 1/2 literacy session, Angelique and Tess partnered up for reading. Angelique's reading was exceptional, with Tess asking insightful questions about the story and providing feedback on how fluent Angelique was. Brock enthusiastically ran over to read as well, impressively sounding out unfamiliar words and finishing the book in no time. Excellent work all around!
5/6 Inquiry – Alex’s Cuba Project
Alex shared his Cuba Inquiry project with me today. He’s working on a brochure, entirely in Spanish, aimed at persuading people to visit Cuba. In it, he highlights exciting activities, like visiting the beach and exploring the city. He also tried to convince me to try the famous Cuban fruits, Guyuba and Guanabana, which are very popular there. Alex has really enjoyed Inquiry this term, diving into Cuba’s culture and perfecting his persuasive skills in Spanish.

State School Spectacular
After practicing all year, our students are set to perform next Saturday night at John Cain Arena. This is yet another testament to our school's commitment and appreciation for the arts. We look forward to seeing you all there as we make Newlands proud! Our students have mastered numerous dances throughout the year, and it was wonderful for families to catch a glimpse of their talent during our school production.
Foundation Transition Day – Next Friday!
Next Friday marks our second transition day for our new foundation students. We can't wait to see them back at Newlands, bringing their happy faces and excitement for the day ahead!
Bike Education Monday - Thursday next week!
Just a reminder: next week, students should bring their bikes to school for our Physical Education incursion program. Don't forget to include helmets, spokey dokeys, and ensure the tyres are pumped up. It’s always wonderful to see Newlands buzzing with bicycles and smiles! For more details, please visit the Bike Education page.
Leave messages at the office!
Just a quick reminder for parents: if you have messages, forgotten lunches, or drink bottles to pass on to your child, please bring them to the office. Our office team will make sure your items get to your student. This helps us keep interruptions to a minimum and allows us to focus on our program. Thanks for your understanding!
It has been a few massive weeks at Newlands and we still have 2 weeks of greatness to come!
Un viaje mágico,
Luke
