Dads & Special Persons morning

We celebrated both Fathers’ (and special persons) Day and National Book Week in style last Friday morning.

Our sunny morning was filled with smiles, laughter, and a whole lot of creativity.

Dads and special persons joined us for a delicious pastry and coffee, while students got into the spirit by crafting heartfelt cards for Father's day.

A huge thank you to the amazing parents involved with SKiPPA (our Parent's Association) and to Little Sister bakery for making the event so memorable.

Thanks to SKiPPA (our Parents' Association) and Little Sister Bakery Melbourne.

Year 6 market - this Thursday (5th September) and next Thursday (12th September)

In leadership, the year 6’s are currently working in initiative groups. This is a project where each team has been tasked to develop a program or initiative that they can run to benefit others in our community.

Tomorrow after school (Thursday 5th September), two groups will be running a mini market in the school grounds.

One group (Bea, Mia, Olivia, Apurva, Ella and Valentina) is selling donated second-hand books and donating all proceeds to Sacred Heart Mission.

Another group will be selling delicious, home made lemonade and pretzels also donating all proceeds to Sacred Heart.

Neither group will be accepting card payments so please make sure to bring a few gold coins

Dads (and carers) Camp 2024

Our 2024 Dads Camp is taking place this year on the 6th - 8th December at Wye River.

For the benefit of new parents to the school, over the last 9 or so years, small alternating groups of dedicated Dads have developed a tradition of taking their kids away for a weekend of activities, food, music, movies and general fun in the sun. Over the years the camp has grown from a small group of Dads & kids to a large event for the whole community.

To be clear, this is NOT a school organised event but a privately coordinated event.

As per last year, the camp will be held in Wye River, on the Great Ocean Road. With beach and mountains as your backdrop, Wye River is a picturesque camping spot.  Located right on the beach and just 20 minutes from Lorne, or 35 minutes from Apollo Bay, it's an easy 2-hour drive from Melbourne.

Tickets will go on sale at 10am on Saturday 14 September.

To assist us, the campground and our suppliers be prepared as early as possible, we are opening tickets early this year, and keeping prices the same as 2022 and 2023 during the month of September.

SKiPPS Orchestra news

Due to the ongoing maintenance works at school, the orchestra cannot currently rehearse in the Performing Arts Room. So we are planning to make music in a different manner for the rest of this term. Michael (our conductor) will offer a singing and song writing workshop each Wednesday from 8am-8.45am.

The song writing aspect will include the option for children to enter the National Songwriting Competition run annually by the Australian Children's Music Foundation. https://acmf.com.au/national-songwriting-competition/

I know this is very different to the Orchestra program but, in terms of musical development, it is valuable and hopefully lots of fun.

We will run each Wednesday in the BER, the library area in the BER building, which Neil and teachers have kindly made available to us. Parent helpers are always welcome.
