Term 3 Week 10 - 20th September 2024
What a fabulous past two weeks we have had! From concerts, to chickens, and before we knew it, Term 3 is already coming to a close! We are all beyond proud of the Prep’s patience, effort and courage through the concert process. They all shine on stage, what absolute superstars!
We have also loved having our chick program outside our prep rooms. The children have loved watching the eggs turn into the adorable, tweeting chickens that we get to cuddle and adore each
What we are learning!
Maths:
We have been learning about the fabulous world of measurement! We have been exploring heavier and lighter, taller and smaller, and empty and full. We have been doing this through hands-on activities and explorations. From filling up cups and bowls, to see which one holds the most, to using scales to understand how size doesn't necessarily connect to weight. We have also been exploring the idea of following simple instructions. We have been guiding our friends through treasure maps and obstacle courses by using words like; next to, in front of, behind, above, under, left and right.
Little Learners love literacy:
We continue to stream our Little Learners Love Literacy program between the Prep-2 cohort. The students love being challenged and motivated in their new groups this term, and they are all absolutely thriving. The LLLL program focuses on letter sounds and how we can use them in our word formation. We have also been practising how to sound out and blend words that we read. We have been using our sound arms to help us when we find a word that we have never read before.
Literacy:
This week, we have been continuing to learn the world of poetry and rhyming words. The students have become superstars at creating a concept map of as many rhyming words as they can, and creating their very own rhyming couplet. We are so proud of their efforts in Literacy this term!
Leader In me:
We are continually embedding the 7 habits language into our daily teaching through the weeks. This week’s focus is Habit 5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood.
Inquiry:
As part of our inquiry subject: life cycles and habitats; we have been learning about the life cycle of a chicken. Being able to see the life cycle first hand provided the students with a unique view and understanding of the chicken’s life cycle. We have absolutely loved watching the chickens grow, giving them cuddles and listening to their tweet!
