56 Camp

In week 8 students in years 5-6 went on school camp. It was scheduled to be a 4 night camp, but terrible winds on the Sunday night leading up to camp created chaos and the camp was postponed at the last minute. It was unsure if we would get to camp at all due to power not being available and a call to cancel was to be made at 3pm on Tuesday afternoon. With only 7 minutes left, I received a call from camp to say camp is going ahead and the 5/6’s were thrilled.

We headed off on Wednesday from school at 9.15am and after a 90 minute bus ride had a short pit stop before heading to camp.

Once at camp, students found out their groups and we headed off on a 90 minute walk gathering sticks for student to make their own camp fire and cook their lunch. It’s a great way to start the camp and the kids were loving it.

The rest of the camp was action packed with activities that the kids loved from canoeing, high ropes, farm, night walks and more to beautiful meals and night activities including the great  camp talent show. This is always a highlight of the camp and the students did a great job.

Well done to everyone for their enthusiasm and thankyou to all teachers and staff involved to help make it such a great event for the students.

District Athletics day

On Wednesday of week 9, 37 students from years 2-6 who were selected to represent our school headed off to Duncan McKinnon for the District Athletics day competing against students from approximately 10 schools.

For the first time in three years it didn’t rain (for most of the day) and all events went ahead. Our students tried extremely hard to do their best and it was exciting to see. Congratulations to Nate who was our only year 2 student to attend, but was also our only first place winner, in the u9/10 long jump. Congratulations to Luke M also who came 2nd in the u9/10 1500m. Both of these students will go through to the next round and compete in the Division event early next term.

We also had a few students who received a ribbon by coming 3rd in their event. Well done to Maya – Discus, Marie – 100m, Rhys – Discus, Eshie – Shot Put.

As much as they did well with their events, the most pleasing aspect of the day and which made all of the teacher, staff and parents proudest was the sportsmanship of our students both to their fellow Le Page friends but also to students from the other schools.

Congratulations to you all on your wonderful effort and sportsmanship.

Thankyou to all the staff involved for helping on the day.

St Kilda AFLW Players Visit Le Page Primary School

A huge thank you to the St Kilda Football Club AFLW players for visiting our school and speaking with our students about their football training, games, and careers. The players were truly inspirational, captivating our students with their stories and experiences, and motivating them to pursue their own goals.

We also extend our gratitude to Mr. Bradley for organising this fantastic event for our students.

Auslan

Foundation

The preps have had a wonderful term in Auslan. We have covered many topics and are starting to be able to sign about ourselves. This week students drew a self portrait and learnt to sign about their descriptive signs about their hair and eyes. They could describe their eye and hair colour, hair length and whether it was curly, wavy or straight. We also revisited signing our names.

Years 1 to 6

Years 1 to 6 continued to learn signs about holidays. They AES presenters went on a caravaning holiday and taught the students signs for activities like swimming in the river, fishing and cooking outdoors. This connected with the camping and nature walk topics covered a few weeks ago allowing the students to revisit those signs as well in conversations and games.

Library

This was our busiest but most successful term in the library yet.

We now have almost 6500 copies of books, magazines and puzzles in the library. We also ran our first Readathon, which brought in a massive $10k in fundraising. The Fishy Story competition was a big success, too, and we celebrated Book Week with Story Times and a big dress up day.

Our Reader Leaders this term are 34A with an amazing 400 books read, and Yarik, who borrowed 49 books this term. What an effort!

Looking ahead, we are running another Scholastic Book Fair next term. Keep your eyes open for information about this.

Thank you so much to everyone who has supported the library this term and year so far.

Have a lovely holiday, and keep on reading!

Concert Report

Dear parents

WOW – what can I say! The students surpassed my expectations and performed their songs, moves and instruments with enthusiasm and great joy. I am very proud of each and every one of them.

We began with the Soiree in the foyer of the concert venue and each of these students delivered with finesse and aplomb. Some students also performed to an audience for the very first time which was so brave and commendable.

We then all moved into the auditorium of the beautiful venue – the Bayside Church. There were approximately 400 in the audience and what a great opportunity for the students to perform on the large stage with a fabulous sound and lighting show replete with a slide show. The kids were well rehearsed and by the time the concert took place, they knew how to enter and exit the stage silently. Student leaders mostly made up of school captains, music, choir, band and sound tech captains presented the introductions and capably lead the performing students on and off stage.

The staff were amazing as they helped to lead their classes on and off the stage, look after the students back stage as well as set up and pack up lots of equipment. Oh and what about that fabulous staff song and dance at the end ably lead by Mr Danson - and who can forget Mr Earl’s ‘worm’ moves!!

The kids looked amazing in their costumes and a huge shout out goes to all of the parents for your help, support and encouragement.

Here are some very kind words from parents

“We were blown away by the children’s stage presence, confidence and the joy they exuded when singing and dancing! ! ….It was an opportunity of real pride for us as parents and we thank you for providing that opportunity” – Parent

“What a wonderful thing it has been for my children to experience the joys of live performance and the hard work that goes into creating such a big event this term.” - Parent

“I wanted to thank you for the wonderful concert.  We really enjoyed the night and it was lovely to see all the children participating.  Everyone did such a great job and it was evident that you had put a lot of effort in to making it such a successful event.” Parent

Now I would like to thank a number of individuals:

George Danson – for understanding the importance of music and the arts to help kids develop special skills and become well rounded human beings

Annette Schneider & Karen Dragatsikas who took on the role of joint Stage Managers – you were both awesome

Libby Mason – for having to deal with all of the finances

Brooke Sheppard – for help with administration

Richard Earl - Photography

Srebrenka Casaceli - Supervision of instrumental students

Claudia Jenkinson - Choreography for ‘Achy Breaky Heart’

Matilda and Sam Downs - Props

Carlos Peregin - Venue Sound Technician and Kaye Breeuwer - Event Coordinator from the Bayside Church for a wonderful experience

Please enjoy some wonderful photos from the Soiree, preps and grade 1 and 2's. More photos will be coming early next term.
