Amazing 5/6

What have we been up to?

It has been a few weeks since our last report and it feels like everything has been happening. There have been a few obvious highlights and some interesting results.

The big first success was obviously the 5/6 camp. The teachers and I were proud of the resilience and patience that the kids showed when they FINALLY got to camp on Wednesday. Once we got there we were rained on, blown away and covered in mud but I feel like every student left Woorabinda with a few positive memories and a big smile on their face. Some highlights include the bravery shown by many to complete a slippery and muddy high ropes course, usually in the rain. The farm was enjoyed by everybody, with a petition being created at the moment to get a school cow. Finally the food was a real highlight and the positive vibes in the dining hall were great. Students volunteering to be waiters and do dishes is hopefully something they have brought into their kitchens at home.

The second success was our amazing singers and dancers who did such an amazing job with the school production. In honesty, the teachers were a little bit concerned about what the quality would be like with all the other events going on limiting our ability to practice, but the kids rose to the occasion and we were so magnificently proud of their performance and their behaviour on the night. A special shout out to those 5/6s who also performed in the band and the choir.

The third success was our amazing athletes who went off to districts to represent our school. By all accounts, the students had a fantastic day and it is so pleasing to hear from other schools about the sportsmanship and kindness shown by our kids throughout the day. Congratulations to Luke Measham and Maya Seddon who will be going on to the next round of competition.

Finally, the 5/6s have been working incredibly hard on their market stall projects, getting ready to open their small businesses to the rest of the school. They are selling everything from jewellery, food and drink, books and clay figurines. They have been in charge of the marketing, production and the selling of their products. It has been pleasing to see the level of professionalism and pride they have been taking in their work and it was a really successful day.
