Fantastic 3/4

Term 3 Week 10 2024

What have we been up to?

It has been a busy term but students in 3/4 have risen to the challenge. Thursday, last week, was the conclusion of months of planning and rehearsing and the Le Page Primary School Concert was an overwhelming success. It was an amazing opportunity for leaders in the performing Arts to show off their skills and also for many students to step out of their comfort zone and embrace new learning experiences. We have to thank Susie and Anette for the mammoth amount of work that went into the event behind the scenes and lead to such a seamless and enjoyable event. In addition, some students also participated in the District Athletics and we would like to congratulate all students who competed and did themselves and their school proud.

Despite plenty going on in the last two weeks, there was still lots of learning happening in classrooms. In Reading, students learnt about the origins of the ‘dic’ and ‘dict’ root words and continued to visit the library to engage with an ever growing range of literature. Students have also been working on developing their reading comprehension skills by reading short passages of text and then answering literal and inferential questions about what they have been reading.

In Writing, students have been working towards writing a narrative text about natural disasters. In week nine, students researched their natural disasters to ensure that the way they wrote about the natural disaster was realistic. Many students wrote about bushfires, but some students chose to write about different natural disasters as well. Students should be proud of the work they have put into these texts and I would encourage you to ask your child to bring you in and read the texts which have been published in the leadership notebooks. Students have also continued developing their sentence structure skills through the Write 2 Learn program as well as how to structure a single outline paragraph. Next term students will continue their learning about narrative texts by reading high quality texts to imitate.

In Maths, students have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes and objects and how these shapes contribute to the building of certain objects and why these shapes are more or less appropriate for different purposes. Students also touched on the features and properties of 2D and 3D shapes. In Term 4, students will continue to develop their understanding of different measurement tools including length, area, capacity and volume.

Students have worked well to understand the role of local government as part of the Unit of Inquiry that students have been exploring in Term 3. In Term 4 students will begin a unit of learning about different forces and how they can be used in everyday life.

We hope you all have a restful holiday period and take the time to sharpen your saws over the school holidays. Make sure you take the time to read the learning guide of suggestions of learning that can be done throughout the holidays.
