Geography Fieldwork Excursion St Kilda

Year 11 Geography

On the 18th of October, our Year 11 Geography students visited St Kilda to complete their Field Studies on the characteristics and impacts of tourism in the St Kilda region, as well as to analyse and evaluate responses to these impacts from the perspectives of both locals and tourists. To do this, our Geography students created questionnaires in-class to bring with them to the location, where they asked local business owners, workers and tourists to participate in a survey. These surveys asked the respondents questions including why they were visiting St Kilda, how they had travelled to and from the region, what they felt the largest issues affecting the region were and what they believed the most effective responses to the issue would be.

Despite the wild, wet weather on the day, our students were incredibly successful in gathering a large number of survey results from a wide range of respondents who had visited St Kilda from all around the world. Our students produced incredibly professional surveys that gathered informative and insightful responses that helped our entire Year 11 Geography cohort to better understand the ways in which human activity impacts areas both economically, socially and environmentally, in addition to learning more about the perspectives of the people living in, working in and visiting the St Kilda region.

Congratulations to the Year 11 Geography students on their excellent work in the field, and best of luck with both your Field Study Reports and your Unit 2 examinations!
