Japanese News

Last week, the following students represented Mount Carmel College in the annual JATNET (Japanese Teachers’ Network) Speech Competition. This experience provides students with the opportunity to enhance and showcase Japanese language skills, in this statewide competition.

Year 3      Sia Cao and Harriet Gillie

Year 4      Doris Jiang, Grace Stranger and Olivia Ribbon

Year 5      Kimberley Bartel and Milli Wedd

Year 6      Frida Barclay and Jade Brennan

Year 8      Olivia Ims, Isabelle Oakley, Brooklynn Taylor

All students were required to commit their speech to memory, with the content varying at different ages. Years 3 - 7 students create and memorise a self-introduction, while Year 8 students share a speech about Tasmania.

The students attended weekly after school practices to prepare for this unique opportunity as well as making time to practice in their own time.

Congratulations to all participants and all those who supported them. It was lovely to celebrate the students' efforts together with a sushi platter and green tea from Yaizu, Japan.
