Fortnight in Review!
Unit of Inquiry: How We Organise Ourselves
Our new Unit of Inquiry, How we organise ourselves, has kicked off with a deep dive into understanding government systems, specifically focusing on our own Australian Parliament. Guided by the Central Idea: Government systems impact the citizens of a country, the students have been exploring how decisions made by the government shape the lives of everyday Australians.
A highlight of this inquiry was the exciting visit from Danny at Linked Incursions, who ran a hands-on day called Parliament Process.
The students were captivated as Danny expertly guided them through a series of activities, helping them understand the various political parties in Australia and the parliamentary process of how bills are presented and passed into law. This immersive experience really brought the topic to life and gave the students a practical understanding of how our government works.
Numeracy: Fractions and Data Analysis
In maths, we’ve been busy working on two key areas: fractions and data analysis and interpretation. The students have been getting to grips with comparing and working with fractions in real-world contexts.
As part of our Learning Task this fortnight, the students put their data skills to the test by analysing and graphing information related to the Australian Parliament system. They created bar charts, which helped them visually represent the data they collected, adding another layer of understanding to their Unit of Inquiry.
Literacy: Reading, Writing, and Spelling
Literacy has been buzzing with activity! Over the past two weeks, the students have worked on strengthening their reading comprehension skills through engaging texts and discussions. They’ve also been involved in creative and informative writing tasks, expressing their ideas with increasing confidence and clarity. Of course, no week would be complete without our weekly spelling activities, where students continue to sharpen their spelling and vocabulary skills.
The Excitement is Building!
With just two weeks to go until the end of the term, the students are showing no signs of slowing down. One reason we are sure is the unmistakable buzz in the air with the much-anticipated Grade 5 Camp on the horizon! The excitement is building, and we’re all looking forward to what the next couple of weeks will bring.
