A note from Kirrily
My last day has come up so quickly, and I have a mixed bag of emotions!! I'm so thankful for my time spent at Uraidla. Thank you for your warm welcome of me, it's been a blessing to be a part of the community for this last year and get to know so many amazing people. I am sad to go, especially sad to say goodbye to all the amazing students I've been able to support - you are all an inspiration to me and I hope all the best for your bright futures ahead!
It's amazing to share that Cheryl Pollard is coming on next term as the new Pastoral Care Worker. She is so lovely and I feel confident will be able to offer incredible support to families - please don't hesitate to reach out to her!
Bye for now, and I'd love to say hi if ever I bump into to you around the hills!
Enjoy the holiday break!
Warm Regards,
Kirrily

Tea Towel Fundraiser
As you may have heard, the kids have been hard at work creating wonderful self-portraits (and portraits of their teachers) which are currently in the final stages of being turned into a design for our limited run 2024 Uraidla Primary School tea towel.
The tea towels are 100% certified organic and will be sold for $15 (or 3 for $40) as a Parents and Friends Fundraiser for our school.
More information and the preview of our own design will come soon; and orders will open at the beginning of term four, with the final products arriving at the beginning of December - perfect for Christmas presents!"
Blast from the past....... a good news story
I am lucky enough to be a part of the 32 students from my school that get the amazing opportunity to represent SA in Nationals for the Science and Engineering Challenge. Nationals this year are on the 25th of October in Townsville, QLD. To be able to get the chance to compete at nationals we first had to win our regional final against 7 other schools from our area. After winning that we progressed onto the State final which was against 7 other schools from around all of SA that also won their regional finals, so it was the best of the best. We ended up winning the state final as well, and by a decent amount too and beating are rivals and archnemeses in the competition Pembroke who won the competition last year but came second to us this year. I attend Urrbrae Agriculture High School and while we are known as an agricultural school, there are also really good STEM courses and opportunities available as well. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, which is pretty much what this whole competition involves. It is run by The University of Newcastle which is located in NSW, and they travel to different states around Australia running this event. Each year one or two of the activities are replaced with new or refreshed ones. At the National Final, teams are randomly allocated to one or two of the eight secret activities. This means that the activities are always fresh and engaging. The 32 students are broken down into teams of 4, and each team gets assigned 2 out of the 8 different tasks/challenges. Some of our challenges this year included building bridges that a trolley with weights can successfully travel over, building planes to hit a specific target, sending coded messages through different coloured LED lights and making fish traps so only a certain number of marbles can get through. My team were fortunate enough at the state final to get the same challenges we got at the reginal final, so we had an advantage because we already knew what we had to do and what worked well and what didn’t work quite as well and needed some readjustments. I am so lucky and fortunate to be able to have this experience and can’t wait to compete and represent SA at nationals!!!

Parents and Friends
The Parents and Friends would like to welcome any new members to join our ranks! We meet Tuesday evenings at 7pm twice a term. Our next meeting is at the Primary School on 27 October at 7pm. Come along and have fun while supporting your kids! 🙂
Here is some general information about Parents and Friends:
We are a group of parents and friends of the school, who share the vision of an inclusive and welcoming school community. We focus on activities that raise funds for the school for equipment and experiences and provide opportunities to bring everyone together and feel part of our community. Best of all we have a lot of fun and laughs while doing it.
We meet twice a term, and everyone volunteers to run or support different activities throughout the year. You can join the committee, or we welcome volunteers for events and activities.
P&F activities you can volunteer to help out with include:
- Willow Café ( run after assemblies, hot drinks and snacks)
- Sausage sizzles for Acquaintance night/ end of year concert
- Second hand uniform sales
- Kytons Bakery sale
- School Disco
- Large events like the Colour Run/Art Show
To join, come along to a meeting (dates in the yearly planner) or email uraidlapandf@gmail.com to express your interest in helping out with events.
Uniform Ordering
Did you know our school uniforms can now be ordered through Flexi Schools? We have the whole range available for you to order through the Flexi schools app. Place your order online and we will get the order packaged and delivered to your child.
Alternatively, please come into the front office on a Monday or Friday for a viewing/fitting or to purchase.
Enrolment in Reception
If you have a child turning 5 in the next 12 months, they should have already enrolled to start school. Children either start school at the start of the year or in July, depending on their age.
Our school has now reached capacity, which means that we give priority enrolment to children in our catchment area. Please note that younger siblings of existing students are guaranteed enrolment.
If you are speaking to other families about enrolling in school, they can find their local school through the Find My School website: Find a school zone or preschool catchment area (education.sa.gov.au)
Enrolments for the start of 2025 should already be finalised, whether for the start of the year or mid 2025, for our staff planning.
Please contact the front office for a registration of interest form today!
