Principal's Message

Dear Parent and Carers,

As we move further through the term, it continues to be wonderful to see the wide range of learning opportunities, achievements, and experiences taking place across our College community.

Morrisby Profiling is well underway for our Year 9 students as they begin their pathway interviews. This valuable process helps students gain a deeper understanding of their natural strengths, personality traits, and career interests, while exploring potential career pathways and future study options.

The junior years are an important time for students to start thinking ahead and making connections between their education and future aspirations. While this can sometimes be overlooked, early planning and self-awareness play a key role in helping students make informed decisions about their pathways.

It has been wonderful to see families actively involved in this process, supporting students as they reflect on their strengths, interests, and future opportunities.

Continuing the focus on future pathways and aspirations, I recently had the pleasure of attending an excursion with my Year 10 English class to tour the Churchill campus of Federation University.

Throughout the day, students engaged with university staff and student leaders in a range of activities designed to build writing skills, confidence, cultural understanding, and awareness of post-secondary pathways.

It was particularly interesting to see students’ reactions to university life and the campus environment. Many were surprised by the relaxed and self-directed nature of university study, which provided valuable insight into the opportunities and independence that further education can offer.

Experiences such as these are incredibly important in helping students broaden their perspectives, explore future possibilities, and begin imagining themselves in post-school education and career pathways.

Alongside supporting students to explore their future pathways, we also continue to foster opportunities for learning, reflection, and connection to culture and country.

Wednesday marked the beginning of Reconciliation Week, with this year’s theme, “All in,” encouraging all Australians to continue working together towards reconciliation. Throughout the week, students have been engaging in activities focused on culture, traditional craft, storytelling, and the creation of vision boards and artwork to display around the College.

Each day during Reconciliation Week, students also take part in a reconciliation reflection through videos created and presented by students across the year levels. These reflections have provided valuable opportunities for learning, discussion, and shared understanding.

We are proud to see our students embracing the spirit of Reconciliation Week by learning, reflecting, and working together to strengthen understanding, respect, and connection within our College community.

As always, there is a great deal happening across the College, and as I look through the pages of this newsletter, I feel an enormous sense of pride in the achievements and involvement of our students. Whether it was the outstanding success of Wednesday night’s VCE Drama performances, our Year 7 boys AFL team progressing through to the State Semi Finals in August, or the enthusiasm building for next week’s Big Freeze fundraiser, it is wonderful to see so many students stepping outside their comfort zones, embracing opportunities, and challenging themselves in new ways.

These events are just some of the many moments that make our College community so special. It is not only the major achievements that deserve recognition, but also the everyday successes, personal growth, acts of kindness, and resilience shown by our students each day.

Thank you to our staff, students, and families for continuing to contribute to such a positive and supportive school community. I look forward to celebrating many more achievements together throughout the term.

Sincerely,
