Principal's Message to the School Community

Acknowledging National Reconciliation Week

Dear Families and Community Members,

This week, our school proudly acknowledges National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to consider how we can each contribute to reconciliation in meaningful ways.

National Reconciliation Week is held each year from 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in Australia’s history: the 1967 Referendum, when Australians voted to include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the census, and the 1992 Mabo decision, in which the High Court recognised Native Title rights.

The week grew from earlier reconciliation efforts of the 1990s and has become an important national event that encourages learning, respect and positive relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider community.

Reconciliation Week is an important opportunity for us to strengthen our understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the world’s oldest continuing cultures.

At school, our students are engaging in age-appropriate learning experiences that explore the themes of respect, inclusion and unity, and we are encouraging thoughtful conversations about how we can build a more just and equitable future together.

As part of our recognition of this significant week, we warmly invite our families and community members to join us on Monday morning to listen to our school choir perform two special songs reflecting the spirit of reconciliation.

This performance will be a chance for our students to express their learning through music and to celebrate the importance of coming together as a community.

We would love to see many members of our community there to support our students and share in this moment of reflection and celebration.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to foster understanding, respect and belonging within our school community.

Kind regards,

Alistair Rayner
