Across primary, staff are continuing to model the use of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) systems throughout everyday routines and interactions. We are focusing on using and modelling core words at meal times, such as eat, drink, more, finished.

Modelling AAC is important because it gives students consistent opportunities to see language being used in meaningful contexts. Just as children learn spoken language by hearing others speak, AAC users learn by seeing communication modelled for them. Regular modelling helps build understanding, confidence, vocabulary, and independence in communication.

By embedding AAC naturally into daily routines, we are supporting all students to express their wants, needs, thoughts, and ideas in ways that are meaningful to them.

ROOM 7

Room 7 has been learning to use AAC in the morning circle to communicate their feelings to strengthen their emotional literacy. In literacy learning, students also engaged in hands-on experience to develop their knowledge and skills of phonics. In Week 4, They also used playdough to make the numbers and dots on their plate! The most exciting event was the students were going in the community for their swimming program.
