Basketball
Thank you to all the players, coaches and families for the fantastic start to the Basketball season. Please be aware that for home games we must supply TWO parents to assist with scoring sheet and scoreboard. You do not need any previous experience and the referees, and court supervisors are always ready to help. Thank you very much in advance for your assistance.
The First V had a very strong win over our Edmund Rice rivals St Pius X College, making this their second win of the ISA season, demonstrating all the hard work and development put in by both coaches, players and families. Well done to the Year 8As and Year 9As who both picked up a win.
Baseball
The First IX took on the undefeated and top ranked Steelers Blizzards, who going into the game had only conceded eight runs thus far this season. The First IX went about their business like it was any other game and gave it their absolute all. While the Steelers demonstrated their strength, the First IX can hold their head up high as they really took it to them and managed to score more runs against the competition leaders than any other team has so far this season. This is a testament to the development that is occurring for this squad, and I am sure that we will continue to see this hard work paying off throughout this season and many to come.
The same can be said for the U14 Baseball team who despite a slow start to the game really showed their class as they came back in the third inning to make a very exciting, yet stressful game. Although they did not secure a win in the end the intestinal fortitude that they showed is very promising and something that we are all very proud of.
Cricket
The First XI continued their winning ways with a very solid win over Oxley College, it was a good day to be a Malone, as Hamish and William picked up four wickets each. There was plenty of success in the Thunder League this week with the 16 Blue, 14 Black and 13 Gold Teams all picking wins. Special mention to Scott Dunlop (16 Blue Team) who got five wickets including a hatrick!
Golf
Our Golfers took to Strathfield Golf Course on Saturday in what was a lovely afternoon of Golf. We unfortunately played short as we took on the very strong St Ignatius', Riverview. Jack McDonald was backing up after a big night of swimming on Friday and managed to keep, with the new set of clubs, his undefeated streak going. While our other Golfers lost narrowly in great games it is safe to say that Golf was the real winner last Saturday.
Touch Football
Well done to the Senior A Touch Football Team who had a very strong win against St Augustine’s College on SPC 3 over the weekend. Coach Mr O’Halloran and Captain Francesco Mazza clearly had the boys firing and we look forward to what the rest of the season holds.
The Year 7/8 As went down in a close contest while the B and C teams both secured wins at home which is fantastic to see.
Swimming Invitational
I would like to send out a huge thank you to all the staff that gave up their Friday night to assist with the running of the St Patrick’s College Invitational Swimming Carnival.
Although we were a little short on staff and swimmers, everyone pulled together and the evening was a great success overall. A huge thank you to Mr Watson, Ms Rocca, Dr Song, Mrs Simms, Ms Guirguis who all assisted very well and then special mention to Mr Fochesato, Ms Lamir and Mr Viney who not only helped on Friday night but then backed up Saturday with Co-Curricular.
A huge thank you to the student helpers Jack Allen, Nino Girolamo and Dann Wilson. Mr Brennan, Ms Pearson and Coach Gatto had the SPC boys ready and raring to go, thank you for all your commitment to the SPC Swimming Program.
Last but certainly not least thank you to Mr Brett McDonald who stepped and assisted with the running of the evening by being a timekeeper, and a fantastic one at that!
