Senior Years Learning Community

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we conclude week 6 of term 4, students have been working hard towards many different learning areas and topics:

English – We have thoroughly enjoyed exploring persuasive writing and techniques used. Students have been heavily engaged with our mentor text The Last Bear by Hannah Gold and will be writing their own persuasive piece of writing later in the term.

Maths – We have recently finished the topic of Data Representation in which students were exposed to a great insight into analytics, survey results and even used Excel spreadsheets to great effect. We are now back on the topic of fractions, decimals and percentages as of this week.

Inquiry – This term’s topic is Business and Economics. We’re learning different aspects of Business and Economics including Entrepreneurship and looking at Shark Tank as inspiration for student thoughts. Students are working in groups to come up with their own grand entrepreneur idea and will present to the class in the coming weeks.

Religion – In Religion, we’re exploring the birth of Jesus and the stories and lessons learnt throughout the topic.

At home you could support student learning by:

  • Listening to your child read
  • Investigate our mentor text (The Last Bear by Hannah Gold)
  • Examine different types of Data Representation through types of charts. Students could create their own survey question at home and represent the results in a graph.
  • Students are to familiarise themselves with fractions, decimals and percentages.
  • Investigate Products/Business's that have been invented and whether they have been successful or not with your child.
