School Reports & Understanding your child’s progress.
By the end of this term, you will receive a school report for your child. It is important to remember that improvement is improvement and does not always mean an increase in grade. The aim for all of our students is to achieve a C grade as this means they are generally managing the curriculum taught in class, but progress is the main goal.
The best way to see if your child’s learning is improving is to come into the classroom, meet with your child’s teacher, look through their student books and note the progress from the start of the year up to today.
If it is difficult to come into school due to work commitments, Seesaw is an excellent way of seeing your child’s work within the classroom. If your child responds to “What did you learn today?” with “Nothing!”, the Seesaw content will allow you ask more specific questions. If they have posted a paragraph written in class, then you can then ask them about the words used, how confident they felt doing the task etc.
Most teachers post videos of your children reading. This is an excellent way of finding out how your child’s reading fluency is presenting in class. You can also listen to it together and you can ask what they learned from the passage.
Effort is a significant indicator within your child’s report. It demonstrates the work ethic that your child is applying within the classroom for each learning area.
If your child has attained a ‘VG’ or ‘O’ in a learning area, they should be celebrated for this. Teachers and parents hold this indicator in very high esteem as it demonstrates that the child is working hard to achieve the goal of the task.
Please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher or access Seesaw to see the wonderful progress your child has made in 2025!
