All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day
Last weekend we celebrated All Saints' Day on November 1st and All Souls’ Day on November 2nd. All Saints’ Day honours all the saints in Heaven, both known and unknown, who lived holy lives. It’s a celebration of the Communion of Saints, reminding Catholics of the spiritual connection between those in Heaven and those still on Earth. On this day, as Catholics we attend Mass to give thanks for the example of the saints and to ask for their intercession.
To acknowledge All Saints' Day, our Year Six students created Saint artwork.
Following All Saints' Day is All Souls’ Day which is a more solemn occasion focused on praying for the souls of the faithful departed, especially those in Purgatory, who are being purified before entering Heaven. As Catholics we believe that prayers, Masses, and acts of charity offered on this day can help these souls reach eternal peace. Traditions include visiting cemeteries, lighting candles, and offering indulgences.
Together, these two days reflect the Church’s deep belief in life after death, the power of prayer, and the hope of eternal life with God.
