Our Foundation, Year One and Two students have been learning all about the Deaflympics that started on the 15th of November. They have been exploring how the athletics compete, how they know when to start their race, the technology that is being used and the symbolism of the logo and emblems past and present.
Students have also been discussing how the spectators (both deaf and hearing) support the athletes, and have been drawing and writing about their ideas such as using flags, flashing lights, tablets, vibrating bracelets and all sorts of creative designs.
Viewing of the Deaflympics can be watched via YouTube for the days highlights, and past games or matches that have occurred over the course of the games.

The Year Three and Four students have been exploring symbols, logos and design elements of the Deaflympics imagery and how it explores, celebrates and reflects the International Deaf community. They have been creating symbols and logos that represent a country of their choice as the host of an imaginary Deaflympics. This has developed some amazing ideas, discussions and questions for everyone about accessibility, diversity and sportsmanship as well. Please enjoy their designs for logos, medals and symbols.

The Year Five and Six students have been diving into the Deaflympics history and how things have changed from the Melbourne Deaflympics in 2005 to now, Tokyo 2025. The opening ceremony was of particular interest in seeing changes in technology, funding and awareness of the general public to the existence of a Century long International Event. They have also been looking more in depth at the individual sports and what is adjusted to support the needs of the Deaf Athletes and how new technologies have been created by Deaf athletes and spreading awareness around the world.
