What a busy few weeks we have had in the Health & Physical Education Curriculum!

                                                                2025 House Captains

House Points:

Term Four House Points are back!!!!

Great to see so many students making positive choices and being awarded house points. Continue to be kind to yourself and others to earn house points. We are getting closer to the end of the term which means we are close to crowning our house colour champions.

Foundation:

Over the past few weeks, the Foundation students have continued to develop and practising their Fundamental Movement Skills.

The first lesson provided the students with the opportunity to practise a new style of throwing using a frisbee. To teach this skill, the students practised throwing the frisbee towards set targets with the chance to score house points. They then moved on to working in small groups to practise the Crocodile Catch method. We worked on this from varying distances.

The next lessons saw the students move on to practise the skills involved with the game cricket. First, the students worked together to roll the ball along the ground and also gather it with two hands from a crouched position. The students then called upon their prior throwing knowledge to allow them to throw either over or underarm towards cricket wickets from varying distances.

Year One/Two

Over the past four weeks, the Year One/Two students have been refining and practising their team building and Fundamental Motor skills Throwing and Catching. This unit was broken into separate parts. The first part focused on throwing accuracy and allowed the students to use a variety of objects to practise their under/overarm throw techniques. The students were encouraged to work hard on their accuracy skills as they could earn house points if they hit certain targets.

The second part of the unit provided the students with the opportunity to practise a new style of throwing using a frisbee. To teach this skill, the students practised throwing the frisbee towards set targets with the chance to score house points. They then moved on to working in small groups to practise the Crocodile Catch method. We worked on this from varying distances.

Year Three/Four

Over the past four weeks the Year Three/Four have participated in a new unit which incorporated the sport Ultimate Frisbee. The unit was broken up into two parts, a skill-based sections and a gameplay section.

The skill-based lessons concentrated on the skill acquisition required to progress to match play. The students learned how to hold and release the frisbee quickly as well as the two types of catches (Crocodile and Crab Catch). We then put these skills in practise and played some target practise games and performed some small group drills to allow for further exposure to the core skills.

The next lessons provided the students with the opportunity to apply the learned skills to a modified game of Ultimate Frisbee. The purpose of modifying the game was to allow each student to achieve success at some point during the lesson. As the games progressed, so did their skills and understanding of the game which was pleasing to watch.

Year Five/Six

Over the past four weeks the Year Five/Six have participated in two different sports which focused on aspects of striking, throwing, catching and teamwork.

The first sport the student participated in was Danish Rounders. This was new to the students and provided them with many learning opportunities such as: striking a ball with a small bat, running to bases, fielding and teamwork. The students worked exceptionally well together and gained a lot from this lesson.

The second sport the students participated in was Ultimate Frisbee. This unit was broken into two lessons, a skill-based session and then match play.

The skill-based lesson concentrated on the skill acquisition required to progress to match play. The students learned how to hold and release the frisbee quickly as well as the two types of catches (Crocodile and Crab Catch). We then put these skills in practise and played some target practise games.

The second lesson provided the students with the opportunity to apply the learned skills to a modified game of Ultimate Frisbee. The purpose of modifying the game was to allow each student to achieve success at some point during the lesson.

Year Three/Four Region Hooptime

On Wednesday 29th October a select group (pictured below) represented our school at the Year Three/Four Region Hooptime tournament. The day was filled with lots of enjoyment, challenges and some close results. Each student should be proud of their efforts. Unfortunately the girls team just missed out on progressing to state, going down in their grand final. Congratulations to the boys' team who have progressed to state after their comfortable grand final victory. We wish you all the best at the next stage.

Region Cricket Blast

On Friday 7th of November, a select group of Year Six students represented our school at the Region Cricket Blast Carnival at Knox Gardens Reserve. Up until this point, the team was undefeated but knew there was going to be some tough competition heading into this event. The team ended up dropping the first two games but bounced back and took out 3rd place. As per usual, for a small school in the hill, this is an amazing effort. Congratulations boys!

Eastern Region Boys Netball Carnival

On Thursday 13th November, eighteen of our Year 5/6 students represented our school at the Eastern Region Metropolitan Netball Gala Day at Knox Regional Netball Centre. Over the course of the day the students participated in five games. It was great to see the boys' confidence and teamwork grow over the course of the day. One of the biggest highlights from the day was Lucas taking out the Best and Fairest from his respective pool. Overall, the day was a great success in promoting both boys netball and exposing students to something alternative.

State Athletics

On Thursday 6th of November, Flynn in Grade Three represented our school at the State Track & Field Athletics Championships. On the day, he competed in two events: Shot Put and Long Jump. We are so proud of the determination, resilience and respect he demonstrated during each of his events. I am lucky to announce that Flynn placed 3rd in the State for Shot Put which is a tremendous effort. Congratulations!
