Year One

Communicating with the Year One Team
We are very happy to be partnering with you in 2025, and welcome your input:
When communicating with the Year One team, please reach out via the below email addresses. Your child's class teacher is your first point of contact when requiring a discussion. You will usually see us outside the classrooms at the end of the day. This is the preferred time to catch us for a quick chat as we are focused on greeting the students before school.
Please also note that we have scheduled meetings at 3.45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Year One Teachers:
Ms Zoe Bates (Class 1A) Zoe.Bates@education.vic.gov.au
Mrs. Julie Hall (Class 1B) Julie.Hall@education.vic.gov.au
Mrs Tanya Howell (Class 1C) Tanya.Howell@education.vic.gov.au
Colour Fun Run
🌈 What an exciting afternoon we had last Friday November 14th at the Colour Fun Run! Thank you to the families and the wider community who helped us raise some much needed funds for our school upgrades! It was amazing weather and the introduction of the slip and slide was certainly popular! 🌈
Puffing Billy Excursion
On Monday 17th November, students in Year One and Two trekked to Emerald Lake on the iconic Puffing Billy. We learnt about steam engine 3A and the history behind why it was named '3A' and not '1A'.
Additional learning focuses were about what Puffing Billy was used for prior to the introduction of trucks and cars, including how farm produce was transported from Gembrook to Melbourne for sale. Students were able to explore how produce was transported and experiment with the tools used to operate the Puffing Billy railway.
🚂 Thank you to our parent helpers who attended on the day. 🚂
Take Home Readers
Each week, your child is provided with one hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 3-4 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.
Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought back to school every Monday morning to be checked and swapped over by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Monday.
Term Four Tricky Words
Please don't forget to practise 'tricky words' this term. These words have irregular spelling patterns and are often difficult for children to sound out; therefore need to be learnt through regular practise and repetition.
animal | always |
open | other |
another | water |
walk | talk |
know | laugh |
people | every |
